VICE PRINCIPALS is an HBO series that follows the insane antics and alliance/rivalry between Neal Gamby and Lee Russell. They are rude, obscene, and complete idiots in both their jobs and in life. They are fighting to be principals of the school and little did they know that the spot was filled with Dr. Belinda Brown, a superintendent hire.
Danny McBride and Walton Goggins are incredible together. They seem like they can bounce ad-libbed lines off of each other all day. McBride is constantly doing comedy roles so seeing him in this show feels natural. However, Goggins is typically seen in dramatic roles and I find him hilarious doing comedy. He is like the devil that exacerbates every situation and drags Gamby along.

VIDEO QUALITY:
The video is a 1080p AVC transfer and it looks great. The coloring isn’t as bright as some of the HBO shows I’ve seen on Blu-ray lately like BALLERS but the coloring is still very good. The school’s colors are a royal blue and that is always a standout when you see it at various times. Goggins’ character wears much brighter clothing than a lot of the other characters. As for the details, the images are crisp and full of intricacies. All in all, the video has been done very well.
AUDIO QUALITY:
The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix that definitely gets the job done. There aren’t very many “loud” moments in the mix aside from the marching band-like theme and score. There is some ambient sound in the larger gatherings like the cafeteria scenes. The sound is primarily in the front speakers from dialogue so the rest of the speakers are rarely used with any real force.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
VICE PRINCIPALS is only on its first season but I can see a couple of solid seasons as long as they keep with the tone they have setup. The established cast have chemistry and other than adding to the cast, they definitely shouldn’t subtract. The release has both audio and video that make sense for the series. There is a great list of features for the season and worth checking them out. If you’re into McBride and brash comedy, I would highly recommend picking this up.
