THE MOVIE:

Shark Week this year and week starts July 22nd and runs through the 29th with over 20 new specials. This Blu-ray edition is a nice addition to any collection of fans of the event or sharks in general. Sharks have always been a fascinating creature that became famous with JAWS and still captures the attention and imagination of humans everywhere. Once more this summer come MEG proving that sharks are still a big money maker as well.

There is no better way to experience sharks then that of Shark Week or a quick glance into the 5 episodes on this blu-ray disc. The big bang for your buck comes in that of the 30 HDX digital episodes via vudu through the code housed inside. The package also features 2 dvds one of which is the same content as the blu-ray disc and the other is 5 vintage episodes.

The blu-ray disc content features how JAWS captured the world’s attention to sharks, highlights of Air Jaws which include the famous photographer known for capturing some of the best shots of great whites we’ve ever seen. First to get you going though is 2 lead expeditions on whether mako sharks jump out of the water like great whites as a predator maneuver for kills, and then tracking the speed in which mako’s max out at as the rumors have been quite wild before hand.

VIDEO QUALITY:

The blu-ray video quality is absolutely stunning. Who doesn’t love ocean themed documentaries in wonderful 1080p? Much less who doesn’t love sharks in 1080p!? Everything about the blu-ray disc is fine and what you are really after with this edition. The only gripe again is that the bulk of content is on the DVDs.

AUDIO QUALITY:

I guess we received what we should have expected with a program such as this. Only a 2.0 Dolby Digital track. Though not many documentaries or reality tv grace us with 5.1 anyhow. Sounds fine for what we have to deal with, and meets the subject matter just fine.

SUPPLEMENTS:

The Blu-ray edition comes in a very snazzy slipcover that has embossing and sand texture like effect. There is lots of content when factoring in the DVDs, but as mentioned before the blu-ray only features 5 fan favorite episodes and the other 2 discs are DVD one of which is the same 5 fan favorite episodes as the blu-ray. It’s the last DVD that features 5 vintage episodes in which you get new content. HOWEVER the real value comes in the digital copy when redeemed with vudu in that it includes 30 episodes in HDX.
