Overboard is a 2018 American romantic comedy film directed by Rob Greenberg, written by Greenberg, Bob Fisher, and Leslie Dixon and starring Eugenio Derbez, Anna Faris, Eva Longoria, John Hannah, and Swoosie Kurtz. A remake of the 1987 film of the same name, the plot follows a struggling working-class single mother who convinces a rich playboy with amnesia that they are a married couple.

THE MOVIE:
OVERBOARD is a remake of the 1987 film of the same name which starred Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. In a reversal of roles the 2018 version stars Eugenio Derbez who is a wealthy Mexican playboy who lives off his father’s fortune. Kate, played by Anna Faris is hired to clean the luxury yacht when the two clash ending in her firing. Kate later seeks revenge when Leonardo falls off and is washed ashore with no recollection or memory of who he is.
Kate and her friend (played by Eva Longoria) hatch the idea of convincing the hospital that he is her husband so that she can then make him babysit her kids and help around the house while she studies hard to try and pass an upcoming test to become a nurse. While you can see where much the film is headed even if having never seen the original the film still offers plenty of laughs.
While a lot of reviews seem to trend towards this being an un-needed remake I beg to differ in regards to target audiences. Having Hispanic in-laws who’ve viewed this movie think its a complete riot of laughs. Mission accomplished. I found the film to be hilariously amusing at times as well and think that if you go into this film expecting lighthearted fun then you will walk away amused as well.
VIDEO QUALITY:
OVERBOARD comes to blu-ray with a 1080p transfer that more than exceeds expectations for your typical rom-coms. There’s a lot of great ocean scenery that allows for beautiful views that transcend well on blu-ray. Great depth and vibrant colors throughout allow for a much needed HD viewing versus dvd for OVERBOARD.
AUDIO QUALITY:
OVERBOARD comes to blu-ray with a DTS HD 5.1 Audio track that handles the load quite well. A film that often has scores or music in the background and or pacing through the film’s scene changes. There is no qualms or issues to report with this audio track and it more than meets the needs of a dialogue heavy film.
