ASH VS. THE EVIL DEAD is a series on STARZ that is the ongoing story of Ash Williams. He is the main character from the original three films and this series continues about 30 years after events in THE ARMY OF DARKNESS. I would rather not give away too much plot info from each season, just know that the story flows if you binge watch the series.

The series itself is loaded with comedy, gore, and weirdness but completely entertaining. Bruce Campbell does not miss a beat and you can see that he enjoys just being the character. The chemistry that the whole group has with each other keeps the show from having tough lulls. It was a surprise that the series only went for 3 seasons but these things happen. At least it didn’t get stuck in TV limbo and not get a home release.

Cast
Bruce Campbell – Ash Williams
Ray Santiago – Pablo Simon Bolivar
Dana DeLorenzo – Kelly Maxwell
Lucy Lawless – Ruby
Michelle Hurd – Linda Bates-Emery
Ted Raimi – Chet Kaminski
Pepi Sonuga – Lacey Emery

VIDEO QUALITY:

The video is a 1080p AVC presentation that has a picture quality that all three seasons share. The coloring is bold in plenty of places but especially in the reds. There is bloody gore and gross deaddite “fluid” that look great in HD. The meshing of practical and CG effects is seamless. Details are prominent and clean. The contrasting is strong but there are a few moments where things get muddled.

AUDIO QUALITY:

The audio is a lossless Dolby TrueHD 7.1 mix that is a great mix for the series. There is constantly proper prioritizing of voices, effects, and other sounds. The LFEs are also strong and have a demanding presence. The mix has things on it that most don’t want to hear and they are plenty gross.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

As I mentioned earlier, ASH VS THE EVIL DEAD is hilarious and is tailored for the fans of Raimi’s created universe. The show never lost touch with its roots and held on to that horror/comedy twist. It really is a shame that the show has been cancelled and that Bruce Campbell decided to retire the “Ash” character. As for the release, all three seasons have a ton of info on the various episodes, people involved, and the characters. The video transfer is excellent and so is the sound mix. This is the case for all of the seasons. So if you don’t have these releases or if you are a fan of the show, I can highly recommend picking this up.
