An Inside Look At The Pop Culture Allure to THE THING Merchandise

First things first I’m sure many could off-the-bat rightly just tie this with the psychology of nostalgia in general. And obviously you’re right. How often do our buying habits and hobbies often connect with the joys of childhood? Having been a collector extraordinaire as I prefer to call it, but perhaps more justly a collect-whore as Ken so eloquently exclaims I’ve done my fair share of reading everything nerd, pop-culture, and geeky.

Whether it’s watching videos on youtube, or listening to podcasts, another repeated sentence that comes up often when I hear or see collectors interviewed is that of “What I couldn’t Have”. Now I’m not about to go down the rabbit hole of the psychology of all things taboo thus creating the hidden impulse and addiction for us as humans to seek out. Nah … cause in the treasure troves of now legendary internet memes (and videos going viral) I must quote the great “Sweet Brown” (Yes, that’s a real name)

“AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT”

However, I have seen many-a-times when collectors go after all those cool things they wanted as kids that they just couldn’t have for one reason or another.

So just know that we all love stuff from our childhoods and currently the 80’s are still rockin’ and one film in particular has latched on to the masses that fascinates more than the obvious choices, the sci-fi horror THE THING from the iconic John Carpenter with the 80’s dominant Kurt Russell. So much so that there is also an underrated prequel that came out in the not so distant past that I feel is definitely worth checking out!

While there has been HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of unique official pieces of merch made for the THE THING. I will (for the sake of my own sanity) showcase to you 10 unique awesome sauce pieces of THE THING merchandise below in no particular ranking order. However before we jump into the 10 here’s a look at the iconic original Drew Struzan movie poster, and an amazing costume ripe for cosplay or Halloween.
