Jeff Winger has to go to Greendale Community College when his degree is found to be a fake. He has to make it through school to be reinstated by the Bar Association. He meets a girl named Britta and finds out that she needs help with Spanish class. Quick on his feet, Jeff makes up a fake study group for the class and somehow a whole group turns up to the meeting place in the library. There is Jeff, Britta, Abed, Shirley, Annie, Troy, and Pierce.

COMMUNITY is created by Dan Harmon and the series went for 6 seasons. It is a quick-witted, funny show that follows this group in some insane situations. As the series went on, things became rocky with characters leaving, threats of cancellation, and even moving to the Yahoo! Streaming Service. It goes to show that there is definitely a following but all good things have to come to an end.

VIDEO QUALITY:

The video is a 1080p AVC presentation that is fairly consistent throughout the series on disc. The first episode has some softer details and this is most likely from the way it was filmed. The colors are bold in the clothing and the school’s decorations. The skin tones are warm and natural. As for details, you can clearly see the grime and bruises in some of the episodes. Clothing textures and hair is easily discernible. There is a light grain on everything and it looks great.

AUDIO QUALITY:

The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix and that is on all of the seasons. The dialogue is clear and that’s good being that the show is a dialogue heavy. Effects are clean and the music is subtle. It uses the LFEs but lightly and not in an overpowering way. The show is better in surround sound with the crowded school areas giving a more immersive feeling.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

COMMUNITY is one of those shows that is really fun to binge watch. When the changes in the later seasons happen, the show loses some of its luster. It’s like watching a family break up and not for the better. The Blu-ray has been authored with a superb picture and the audio is right where it needs to be.

The extras in the set are plentiful with commentaries on almost every episode. There are also tons of delete scenes, the webisodes, outtakes, and more. This is a great set for the fan and people who are checking it out for the first time. I can highly recommend picking this up.
