[NYCC 2023] The Less Long Collectibles, Figures, Designer Toys, Toys, and Everything Else on the Show Floor Article

Now that New York Comic Con (NYCC) is behind us it’s time again to look at some of what happened over the course of the four day convention. Unlike last year the pop culture convention felt a lot closer to a pre-pandemic show with large crowds and busy aisles but with a small caveat.

Unlike prior years, the New York Toy Fair, which normally takes place in February, was held only two weeks before NYCC. This along with a noticeable lack of my favorite companies collectible figures and toy companies had a ripple effect in that it felt as though there was not much new product shown off, which as I mentioned in my Toy Fair round-up, already felt that there was not a lot of new product shown off which compounded the issue now. While the show floor is still my preferred way of enjoying a convention this really did make it feel like a much different year when walking through the convention floor.

Because of the above mentioned issues similar to last year I will covering a wider range of booths in my typical collectible article and have expanded it to cover a few different areas as well. Additionally, though I do cover some of the companies I covered at New York Toy Fair I have chosen to be very brief and only focus on what was newly shown off from these booths since then. Finally I did again feel that the show floor was a bit more skewed towards anime though there was a larger portion of book publishers back as compared to last year which was nice to see. As always this is just a small snapshot of the many booths that are on the show floor and for which I found to be interesting and is by no means a complete picture of the show floor.

eBay

https://www.ebay.com/
So why start with eBay. Well first eBay has again decided to make a larger presence for themselves at NYCC. With a large booth footprint, activities and signings throughout the weekend, live streaming and auctioning, a partnership with Funko and other exhibitors, and even another scavenger hunt there was just a lot happening from eBay throughout the four day show.

The booth itself was very spacious and welcoming with a few different areas showing off different types of collectibles from comics and Funko Pop! to Metazoo cards and even a section for their collaboration with the New Zealand Mint. In the center of the booth a live stage was where lots of celebrity interviews, unboxings, and live auctions took place all weekend.

eBay also collaborated with Funko to hand out 150 tickets each morning to fans, or at least exhibitors that lined up early, which they could redeem at the Funko booth to win a prize which could be anything from a common Pop! to a prototype worth hundreds of dollars which of course eBay would be happy for you to then list on eBay.

Finally like in previous years eBay held a scavenger hunt where fans had to decipher a clue, run to that booth and find a box which could be claimed for a specific prize. The prizes included Funko Pop! figures or various comics. Unfortunately I was not one of the lucky ones this year, I came close on two of the five but was just a drop slow this year.

All in all eBay has embraced NYCC and I hope to see them continue attending in future years.

Super7

https://super7.com/
Since New York Toy Fair there were not a significant amount of new product but a few new exclusives revealed at NYCC from Super7 included a Heat Ray Godzilla, Pumpkin Boy Vinyl Figure, a Toxic Crusader Ultimates, and a few new ReAction figures. An updated version of the Cobra Mothership was also out on display. You can check out my collectibels round-up from New York Toy Fair to see more from Super7.

NECA

https://necaonline.com/
NECA also didn’t have much new product since Toy Fair with really only the Batman ’66 collection of Batarangs and a Universal Monsters animator machine. Check out my New York Toy Fair coverage for a much more in depth look at NECA, Enesco, Kidrobot, and Wizkids.

Tenacious Toys

https://www.tenacioustoys.com/
Tenacious Toys is the premier online retailer specializing in limited edition art toys in vinyl, resin and PVC, as well as imported action figures and one-off custom toys. Tenacious Toys features custom vinyl figures. For NYCC they had two dunny shows including one in collaboration with Heartbat Studio.

EZHobi Co. LTD

https://ezhobi.shoplineapp.com/
EZHobi was on the floor with a variety of kaiju collectibles. Founded in 1998 and based in Taiwan lead sculptor K.N. Lin has a passion for sculpting Godzilla and Gamera in intricate detail and paintwork. Though it was tucked away in a corner of the convention center if you are a Kaiju fan the booth immediately drew your attention with their seven foot Godzilla statue and then kept your attention with their many other pieces on display all with intricate detail.

PureArts

https://www.purearts.com/
Another booth that caught my attention was PureArts. The booth had a line of 1:1 replica cowls, helmets and busts as well as a few scale statues from a host of licensed IP including Warner Bros, DC, Riot Games, and more. The company which was founded in 2008 is run by Hugues Martel and has earned global industry awards and top recognition from the high-end statue communities.

Hallmark: For All Fankind

https://www.hallmark.com/
Hallmark is a company I have not shouted out in a while but it’s time to correct that. Hallmark always has an array of exclusives they share between New York Comic Con and San Diego Comic-Con and this year that included a few Star Wars figure including Darth Revan and Krrsantan as well as a Dr. Who and Harry Potter exclusive. Their booth always shows off a wide array of ornaments, gifts, cards, drink ware, gifts, itty bittys, and more. Another continued tradition from them was getting their daily Star Wars pins.

Citizen

https://www.citizenwatch.com/us/en/
Citizen the watch company had a small portion of the Marvel booth dedicated to them to show off their many Marvel branded watches. Their timepieces are perfect for that nerdy fan and while they were only displaying their Marvel products they do have plenty of other properties they collaborate with including Disney and Star Wars. For the show they were showing off Loki, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor, Avengers, and Black Panther themed watches.

Burgschneider – Dungeons & Dragons: Call to Arms

https://burgschneider.com/
One of the standout booths on the show floor was a display of Dungeons & Dragons themed costumes. The costumes were very well made and at first I thought this was a push for a new game or tie-in to a movie but instead it was actually a collaboration between Burgschneider, a 20 year old costuming company, and Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast for a officially licensed line of costuming for Dungeons and Dragons. Designed to fit anyone’s style the line includes core character classes including fighters, rogues, wizards, and clerics. Additionally, the line includes pendants and amulets to complete your look. For non-costuming they also had pins and patches in the collaboration.

NiteOwl Workshop

https://www.niteowlworks.com/
NiteOwl Workshop creates handmade character plushies from all your favorite properties from cartoons, anime, movies, games, pop culture, and fantasy. While I did like their DC and Star Wars plush, which have a felt like feel, I very much liked their dragon and fox plushes a bit more. Give them a view if you can.

Z2 Comics

http://www.Z2comics.com
Z2 Comics collaborates with top artists, musicians and pop-culture icons to produce graphic novels and collectibles. Distributed globally via Simon & Schuster, Z2 has produced 50-plus unique graphic novel properties and collaborated with top bands and celebrities. For NYCC they had a host of confirmed guests included Halestorm promoting their graphic novel Hyde Manor, GWAR promoting In the Duoverse Of Absurdity, Alan Robert of Life Of Agony with his Pantera: Vulgar Display of Powergraphic novel, Dee Snider of Twisted Sister promoting his graphic novel He’s Not Gonna Take It, and over a dozen contributors to 2023 Ringo-winning TheIllustrated Al graphic novel.

All Nippon Airways Co.

https://www.anaexperienceclass.com/
All Nippon Airways (ANA),  a full-service and award-winning Japanese airline, was on hand with a booth. Their booth had a display of replica planes including a signed R2-D2, C-3P0, and Demon Slayer replica Jets there were photo opportunities and a chance to win some prizes.

Paramount+

https://www.paramountplus.com/
The Paramount streaming service went all in with South Park by creating real world props based on many of the episodes throughout the series including Stan Marsh’s Space Force Hat, Eric Cartman’s homeless attire, Dr. Kenneth McCormick’s bucket hat and sunglasses, and much more.
