Right, I'm back in. I honestly can't let you get away with such a vague statement... "many film critics also prefer the second film in terms of action and suspense." - For one, I highly doubt that there are.. many.. and feel free to direct me to some example reviews. The first film currently sits at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and the second sits at 53%. You must respect the vast difference between the critical opinion on both films if you're happy enough to cite that there are some critics out there who think the second was more... suspenseful. I don't dislike The Lost World. I like all of the Jurassic Park films including the new one. But to say that The Lost World is better than Jurassic Park, that it was better made with better performances is akin to saying that the Hobbit films are superior to the Lord of the Rings films. Now if you'd said that you like The Lost World more than Jurassic Park and you find you get more enjoyment out of the sequel... then that's totally cool. But to say that any of the sequels are fundamentally better films than the first one is madness. I'm sorry that I've ended up going from using the word silliness to using the word madness.
Terminator 2, Aliens, The Dark Knight, Empire Strikes Back, Winter Soldier, Spider-Man 2, Godfather 2 etc etc etc. There are many films light-years better than the original, that's simple critical and commercial fact not an opinion.

The first JP is boring as hell till the T Rex appears. Shoddy acting it's nothing but good effects as someone has already stated above.

I don't place any relevance in Rotting Tomatoes. Never have never will. 60% of reviews are from bloggers who's opinions are meaningless.

Okay, you're frustrating me as you're kinda going off in a bit of a weird direction now, dude. Where did I say in my post there that there are no good sequels, eh? Go on, where? Where did I say that The Lost World isn't as good as the first film because it is a sequel... and that sequels are lesser than the original films purely because they are sequels?

"But to say that any of the sequels are fundamentally better films than the first one is madness." - Was it that bit that's confused you? I was talking about Jurassic Park's sequels there, not about sequels in general.

All of the films you mentioned there... I prefer to the films that preceded them. Maybe except for Aliens as I do love Alien. But you can't be serious if you think The Lost World is comparable to The Godfather 2, Empire Strikes Back and so on.

Ok guys lets keep it on topic. Feel free to take the discussion to PM. We are trying to guess the title, not argue over whether sequels are better. That can be done in a more appropriate thread. Thanks.

Most sequels are inferior to the originals as they, by and large were unplanned when the film was in the works. which explains why the Star Wars trilogy works so well (because they were PLANNED) and why the last three don't!

Conversely, it happens onc ein a while that the sequel exceeds the quaity of the original - Bad Boys 2 for instance.

Meanwhile back on track, I think when JP was in the works they already knew they were going to make a sequel - but not a sequel to the sequel - hence Lost World isn't up there with them.

Just to add my two cents- it drives me up a wall to read time and again people trying to end movie arguments with the Rotten Tomataoes qualifier. The -"Look at Rotten Tomatoes and see that I am right."- argument is as hollow as the "look- it made $50 Million on opening weekend" argument. Rotten Tomatoes is an aggragate scoring guide that uses dubious sources along with well-reknown sources (if we really have any real learned critics anymore).
Rotten Tomatoes is the movie's equilvilent of "it is true because so many believe it". Or argumentum ad populum.
From Wikipedia:

An argumentum ad populum (Latin for "appeal to the people") is a fallacious argument that concludes that a proposition is true because many or most people believe it: "If many believe so, it is so."

This type of argument is known by several names,[1] including appeal to the masses, appeal to belief, appeal to the majority, appeal to democracy, appeal to popularity, argument by consensus, consensus fallacy, authority of the many, and bandwagon fallacy (also known as a vox populi),[2] and in Latin as argumentum ad numerum ("appeal to the number"), and consensus gentium ("agreement of the clans"). It is also the basis of a number of social phenomena, including communal reinforcement and the bandwagon effect. The Chinese proverb "three men make a tiger" concerns the same idea.

The latter "big box office" argument fails beacuse it assumes, that by simply buying a ticket to see the film- that that is an ersatz "yea" vote for the film. When I buy a ticket I am not giving approval of the film- I am simply going to the film. If 100 people buy a ticket, Hollywood judges that as 100 "yea" votes- even if those 100 people agreed that it was a terrible film.
Rotten Tomatoes and Box Office numbers are not proof of a film's quality or worth.
The first is Vox populi, and the second just tells me how many people went to see it.

Yeah well done for getting back on topic mate , maybe there should be a "only my opinion counts thread for certain people "
Anyway one more sleep to go as @rj531 said , what would u want 010 to be mate?
I'm hoping for preditor , the mondo x artwork looks brill for that
I am wishing for Predator myself but I feel it's something new..
Aside from Predator (my wishlist sans Marvel/Disney --The Lost Boys, Breakfast Club, Hitchcock Classics i.e. Psycho, Vertigo, Godzilla, Pacific Rim, Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds)

So far Mondo X (Canada) has Mongrel, Alliance on board but the Target release was Universal. So I am tempering my expectations & will go with these studios..

Kill Bill, IB, Breakfast Club and possibly Ex Machina

If it is Ex Machina then im glad it's previously unreleased art. That could go either way though. I'm a big fan of Mondo so I'll be happy with just about anything as long as I like either the art or the movie. So far I can put a check mark in both columns for most Mondo x releases. I think the only exception so far is Flash Gordon where I didn't like the film but love the art.
