I've read that the image conversion to blu-ray is worst than the DVD, is this for real? I'd love to add this steel to my collection, but only if I can actually watch it...

Its not really the conversion, its that the movie was shot on handheld cameras and the Blu-ray format simply shows it for what it is - grainy, low resolution, jaggy, and awful looking. But still an awesome movie nonetheless. And it will never look better unless it were to be re-shot with better cameras. :)

That sequel doesn't deserve the Steelbook treatment IMHO. It's an abomination!

I love Weeks, more so than Days.

It's not that they were handheld cameras, it's that they were Standard Definition DV.

Very nice, mine was just dispatched from AMZ today so it should be here by the 14th. Can't wait and look forward to this SB.

Oh thanks! Then I guess the image quality of my DVD is not awful, but it's the quality anyone would expect lol

WRONG

parts of the film were recorded with Canon XL1s which are basically a camcorder.

Don't forget it was meant to look this way so just take it for what it is and enjoy

From the pictures it does look very nice in the flesh. Think they slightly missed the boat to be one of the top steelbooks of the year though imo, if only they had spot glossed those eyes! And a high quality matt finish as well would have made it.

I wulda got this for sure but i heard that the movie is like sub dvd quality which is inexcusable imo

i know it was filmed like that purposefully on some students ancient movie-project camera or whatever, but still, inexcusable in the HD era imo

Don't get me started! What about 'The Artist'? Black and white AND silent! What an absolute bloody disgrace! Where was the 3D?? How dare they do that in this day and age??!! And it cost the same as a proper film, with sound and colour......what is the world coming to???

:hilarious:

I love the movie and regardless of the PQ it is a awesome SB. You can't to much to it since it was filmed that way and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I was happy with the disc in the original release (same disc here). The picture doesn't have the extra detail for hd as the way it was shot, as many have stated. But the audio comes into its own in the second half of the film so it was worth it for me.

Um, so you're saying it was shot in HD? That was my point, that it was shot in SD. And that's why it looks bad, not because it was handheld.

The decision to film on DV (using Canon XL1 cameras) was both an aesthetic and a logistic choice. Aesthetically, Danny Boyle felt that the harshness of the DV imagery suited the post-apocalyptic urban landscape and the grittiness of the film in general.

When it came to both DVD and Blu-ray release
Danny Boyle wanted the film not to be changed
What you see is what was shown in the cinema and he wanted the harshness left in as that's the way it's meant to be seen
They did use hand held Canon XL1 cameras and was on purpose not anything to do with budget restraint
The image you see on the blu-ray quality is correct and not meant to be any other way

Steelbook looks good best of the fox releases of the released titles this month
Extras are good and audio is also better than before
Steelbook looks great

Note in regards to
Day after tomorrow Steelbook
is a different story the Steelbook is poor quality finish used
And has missing extras from the special edition DVD
Although image is very good in regards to the film itself
