Update 3/28/2011 appears on site again. It says "We'll send it when available", but they may ship sooner rather than later, or not at all. YMMV. Note this is an empty Sticker Steelbook, that was originally available for those that pre-ordered the Theatrical BD Set. However, at that point you could still order it at $7.50 separately, and then the price went up to $15.

So I went to BB today to look for a new phone since mine broke and I saw an advertisement on an endcap aisle way talking about the LOTR Trilogy "six disc steelbook casing"

Sorry I couldnt get a snap with my camera as like I said I was looking for a phone at the time.

This may be old news, but I didnt see it posted.

If it's a Steelbook casing for the extended trilogy, I'm totally there. However, the only LOTR release I know coming out on Blu-ray anytime soon is for the theatrical version of each movie. No thanks, I've double-dipped enough on this trilogy.

Yeah and thats what it is ... the theatrical, although the extended wont come anytime soon. And you know when you start thinking about the amount of discs the extended will have when its released it may not even get a steelbook edition. Who knows. I'd predict a tin like Band of Brothers at the very least. However, some country might steel up the ext. to incite sales but the overall masses (not collectors) would be just as happy with some deluxe tin.

I was reading that the US version is going to be a "stickerbook", that Canada is getting a trilogy Steelbook, and that Germany was getting a separate Steelbook for each movie. Any confirmation?

I have no idea who that is. I sat down with Universal/Alliance (the Canadian distributor) and Scanavo who produces Steelbook last week and I can assure you this will be a genuine steelbook release being built in Europe. These will not be individual steelbook cases per movie in some sort of Box but a thicker Steelbook package that houses all 6 Bluray discs. The digital copy discs will be attached to the package but will not fit inside as there is no package yet that can hold 9 discs. It will be Bluray sized. And it will be different than what the U.S. is doing. The U.S. is going with a sticker graphic on the Steelbook case and we are doing our own run with the graphics printed right on as per usual.

edit: oh..somebody already mentioned that
