After a few months of hard work, dust, and more than a little elbow grease, the bigger and better Alamo Drafthouse Downtown Brooklyn is fully reopened after a major upgrade and expansion. Guests can now enjoy all-new recliner seats, five new auditoriums, upgraded projection, and additional restrooms.
“I’m thrilled to say that Downtown Brooklyn is now the state-of-the-art theater that our inspiring and passionate NYC community deserves,” said Michael Kustermann, Alamo Drafthouse CEO. “This theater means a great deal to our company, and I know it means a lot to our guests. These upgrades allow us to do more of what we love, which is playing awesome movies for the coolest fans in the world.”
Originally opened in Downtown Brooklyn’s City Point complex in 2016 with just seven screens, Alamo Drafthouse Brooklyn’s five new auditoriums add 256 new seats for a total of 978, all of which are leather recliners equipped with personal swivel tables. Each auditorium has also been outfitted with state-of-the-art Laser projectors, as well as RealD 3D, 70mm, and 35mm capabilities on select screens. Aside from showcasing the cinema chain’s diverse mix of first run films, beloved classics, and signature events, the new auditoriums are also available to rent for private functions. The theater was already a NYC cinema destination that consistently ranked number one in the nation for many of the most highly-acclaimed independent films, and that trend is only expected to continue with the upgrade and expansion completed.
Guests of Alamo Drafthouse Brooklyn can also enjoy a local beer or craft cocktail at the theater’s standalone bar and lounge, House of Wax. True to its name, House of Wax houses a macabre collection of vintage wax figures for guests to browse while they enjoy one of the bar’s signature cocktails. The bar area also features a dining area and a performance and event space which regularly hosts comedy shows and trivia nights.
Alamo Drafthouse Downtown Brooklyn’s upgrade is just the latest in a series of recent victories for the cinema company, including a historic purchase by Sony Pictures Entertainment and the acquisition of six Alamo Drafthouse locations in DFW and Woodbury, MN, formerly owned and operated by a franchisee. Alamo Drafthouse plans to reopen the six shuttered theaters later this month.
