Best Films would be a good one. This year saw a pretty good number of better movies get premuim Steelbook releases especially in the UK apart from the usually excellent Eureka titles. Many of the steelbooks were dissapointing but the titles were very solid one indeed. Examples include
1. Seven Samurai, one of the greatest films ever
2. The Prestige, even if the steelbook looks like an utter failure atleast we saw another very great film get the treatment.
3. The Great Escape, a very highly adored classic
4. Who Framed Roger Rabbit? One of the best films in the Disney Live Action Catalogue
5. Django Unchained, one of last years top films, though not a very special steelbook by any means
6. Argo, the last Best Picture Winner, we are yet to have proper treatments of The Artist and The King's Speech.
7. Pan's Labyrinth, though already released few times its always good to have one more solid title in the bunch
8. Twelve Monkeys, a great surprise.
9. Silence of the Lambs, Edward Scissorhands, X-Men, Robocop, Platoon were poor Steelbooks but very solid titles
10. The Warner Classis wave was riddled with rather disgusting steelbooks but there were huge titles like Treasure of Sierra Madre, Maltese Falcon, Ben Hur, Gone with the Wind, Dr Zhivago, The Jazz Singer. And 2 of the releases North by Northwest and A Streetcar named Desire were rather excellent.
11. Face/Off Finally getting a release it deserves
12. The Sixth Sense, another solid title getting a release
13. Close Encounter of the Third Kind getting a release, albiet one with poor artwork and no second disc.
14. Taxi Driver getting a solid release atlast
So overall there were many badly handled steelbooks but the titles getting the treatments were top class and there was no shortage of real stunners like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Great Escape, Argo, Taxi Driver and so on.
