Received my replacement copy in another cardboard mailer and, surprise....it’s also bashed to ****. Are Zavvi just terminally stupid??

Unfortunately the problem is that you're dealing with a retailer that sells many items other than just steelbooks.
Same with Amazon, Best Buy, HMV and others like them.

When you complain to a customer service department it's not like the person taking the complaint is where the warehouse is.
They can't walk down to the warehouse, pick out your replacement copy and make sure they put it in the white cardboard box that you want.

They probably log your complaint into the computer system indicating that you need a replacement with no mention about a proper steelbook package because they probably don't even know what the steelbook white box is.

So I doubt a manager or supervisor sees that the problem is that it wasn't shipped in a white box.
The replacement request goes to the warehouse and the order is filled and packed in whatever packaging the picker that was hired 10 minutes before has been shown to use or has available by the guy who trained him (who was probably hired the day before.) They probably fill orders for amarays, funkos, monopoly games and every other item Zavvi sells.

Like I said, it's the same as Amazon {millions of items), Best Buy (appliances, computers, cell phones, furniture) HMV (CD's, movies, t-shirts and so on).

Steelbooks are not a priority to any of these companies. Just another product they sell.
If any of these companies stopped selling steelbooks, they would never notice it when it comes to the bottom line.

Therefore it will never, ever, get better. Nothing you can do to ever make them change the way they do things.

Different story with premium steelbook retailers. And yet they still ship items with quality control problems at times.

But at least their shipping packaging is good! :)

Got mine in the USA in a crap cardboard thingie. Tiny dent on the front near the spine. But otherwise fine.
Got my hellboy 2 dent on front near spine also but that's with shrink and jcard still on, I have all my steelbooks sealed so I have no idea how many over the years are damaged but not visible.
But this hellboy 2 is at front damaged,I'm still waiting for my avengers infinity war will this come in mailer? I even have agents and the expensive die hard collection and possibly others I wonder if this is going to end in tears.
Is this Zavvi new method of packing if so I'm done buying anyone know.
They are expensive enough but I'm not into getting items that are going to be poorly packed and arrive damaged I get enough of this with other editions. Nothing beats going into store these days and picking your copy but it's not possible for some items these days.

I agree with all of that but Zavvi positioned themselves from the start as "The Home of Steelbooks" and the fact that they invested in creating those white boxes shows they know the value of using proper packaging. All it takes is to build a step into the dispatch process for steelbooks that ensures they use the white boxes, or they plan the supply properly so they don't run out (they know how much has been pre-ordered after all as it's on their system).

If they don't fix this I'll have to stop ordering from them and use a third party on eBay which doesn't help either of us.

Anyone else having didpatching issues? I ordered 3 copies (in hopes of getting one in perfect condition) and only one has dispatched and the others are still being processed.

Eurgh! When I challenged Amazon on the use of standard A1 cardboard mailers for steelbooks last year, this was the response I received:

I'm very sorry to hear you received the Doctor Who - Series 1 Steelbook (Amazon Exclusive) [Blu-ray] [2017] in an inappropriate standard A1 cardboard mailer instead of specialist steelbook packaging. Thanks for taking the time to let us know.

The packaging methods we use have typically proven over time to protect item effectively. We take full responsibility for the safe delivery of your order, and if your order is damaged in any way, we’ll replace it free of charge.

You can leave a comment about the packaging we use online through our program "Packaging Feedback". You'll be asked to fill in ratings and answer questions. You'll also have the option to upload a photo of your parcel. We review all comments and use them to improve our services.

Which is all very well IF the item is still available and hasn't sold out (which has happened to me with Zavvi titles before), not to mention the hassle of having to go through the replacement process - both for the customer and for them!

I now make sure I always comment on the packaging used (especially when it has got damaged and failed to protect the item inside).

Is this damage under the j card? I have tons of steels from way back when Zavvi started doing steels so I could have tons damaged but like others I do linke to keep them sealed and ever I sold them they would be sold as mint but I have no idea what's under the j card.
I have even purchased editions from sellers with jcard and sealed so same no idea,
To be honest never really thought there be damaged under there until recently but I not know and don't plan to unseal them all to find out
But on looking at them they all seem ok,my recent fight club came in white box but had very minor debt to edge or spine.
But these mailer I have had a few orders sent around the same time hellboy 2 has ding on the front left near spine I have no idea under jcard etc but with everything sealed Could be more, I have just received my agents of shield looks ok on all side, front and back again no idea under jcard, I have a die hard collection sent same time I don't know how this is going to show up like this is all the way to Australia also have few others on way.
And yet I buy game steel cheap as chips weeks before and it comes in a box big enough to fit a box set lol it was crushed but steel seemed ok.
I'm sure I read somewhere that a guy just received a steelbook in a white box I wonder if this is them back to using again or what. I just have no interest in buying these if they are using this all the time.
And I have a few coming out soon I will want mint and is sold out.yiu guys just might get away with less damaged steels in these mailers but all the way to Australia not a chance.
But it seems you guys are just As unlucky.
If only it was Amazon it be sorted out easy these I reckon not.

I've had two of these now and both arrived massively dented thanks to Zavvi using these cardboard mailers. It is really so idiotic and could easily be fixed at source.

This release is a bit heavier than the usual and I wonder if that contributes to the damage when they get thrown around at the sorting office? If anyone has this still sealed, I would check under the J card because both of mine were dented front and back. Or don't if you'd rather not know...

Did yours look ok from before it was unsealed? I really had no idea after all these years that they could get damaged that way and not knowing until unsealed.as all of my steels are sealed I think I leave this as is sealed I rather I not know, but would you not have an idea like jcard damage or something mine looks fine sealed as does the rest of my collection.
But there might be many more of similar damage as shown.

I knew before I unsealed the steelbook it was damaged it was bent
Customers be it retail or ebay purchases have the right to unseal items ordered and inspect for damage as they have purchased items listed as new

Goods sold as new must be in perfect condition and when listed that way the customer has the right to unseal and inspect goods received
A seller saying they are not responsible for damage that can't be seen under a jcard is not allowed under consumers rights unless actual damage is clearly advertised in the description before been purchased.

If you purchase a item listed as new and notice damage after unsealing you are entitled by law a replacement or full refund

The first one I received had a nasty bash on the top so was easily visible (I've posted a picture earlier in this thread somewhere). The second looked fine when it arrived but when I unsealed it, the front was whacked in under the J card and the back was full of dents.

I have seen many advertise this above but yet I have still purchased and I have no idea if it's damaged or not as I don't open and I will never know,it's upto the buyer surely they risk if damaged or not under j card.
I can see why now you open yours maybe I should have done so from years back but I'm not going to check now as I might just find damage I don't want to.
You cant exactly sell a steel new after its open and once opening it's lost part of its value and appeal to buyers, I personally don't buy unsealed copies in eBay.

Just been on to Live Chat, and they have stated that, for Solo 4K and the two Avengers 4K steelbooks coming out next week:

"These will be packaged securely to prevent any damage to the items."

When I said that's what I was told for "Meet The Robinsons" but it turned out to be a lie, they said:

"All of the feedback regarding orders arriving damaged has been passed to our warehouse team to change the packaging to a more suitable and secure packaging for the steelbooks."

Fingers crossed they do!

So I received a steelbook today in a new type of cardboard box. I think this one is much more suited to preventing damages. I am hoping you continue using these from now on, @zavvi

The internals are protected by 2 or 3 layers (2 bottom, 3 top)

That's not new packaging Zavvi been using these for a good while
This is the packaging we been asking Zavvi to go back to using the past 2 weeks :naughty:

Have you not been ordering steelbooks from zavvi in the past 12 months or not noticed before packaging had changed a bit

Infinity War was shipped in usual white box
Orders shipped after this release has been A1 mailers

They have been using that type for a long time now. I like those a lot. But the complaints are about the fact that for some reason in the UK, the most recent shipments were shipped in A1 mailers.

How recent was your order and which steelbook did you get?

Well, it's new to me LOL ... I used to get the "other" white boxes. Guess it has been quite some tme since I actually bought something from zavvi :D. It was for Meet the Robinsons steelbook. I do have Agents of SHIELD and a couple of others coming my way so let's see what they do with those ones.

For those that can't see twitter reply this is what Zavvi have said

Hey Mark, We've listened to the feedback from our customers regarding steelbook packaging and are working to make some ammends. Looks like there's been an issue somewhere along the line but we should be getting better packaging back ASAP.
