Looks good but uninspired. All the latest zavvi releases look the same. Similar to commando, the town, nemo, I robot. Raised border with some embossing, single disc again. A true and tried formula we keep seeing over and over. Oh well....

what do you expect dude ?

its GLOSSY
its EMBOSSED ( not only title but the logo as well )
it has GREAT COLORS

this is as good as a steelbook can possibly get

True. But people asking for embossing all the time. So I don't know if you can actually blame zavvi for it.

If you read the 1st sentence of my statement, I said it looks GOOD. But also said as a criticism, it would be nice to see a different steelbook design instead of the same raised border design we keep seeing a lot in the UK. I stated similar looking steelbooks recently released that all have the same design. There are always pros and cons :naughty:

i cannot recall a single steelbook which looks similar to this... unless you solely refer to the embossed border.. but the logo embossing + color are quite unique

I think it looks amazing. Wonder where all this complaining about a border is coming form all of a sudden. People acting like its a new technique thats being tested for this steel or something. Guess some dont like the Marvel steelbooks either? We gonna start saying the steels are too glossy next? Opinions are opinions but things seem to get a bit contradictory at times.

Looking at the pics, it looks really really nice. Unfortunately mine didn't turn up this morning, but hoping it'll come Monday. The finish looks better than the nemo one, but will wait until in hand.

It is the design philosophy I am seeing over and over. A copy and paste effect. Nobody said the colors are not unique, but the design is monotonous. From what I've seen lately the following steelbooks stripped down look the same......
I robot UK
Commando
Argo
The Town
Finding Nemo
Black Swan
Aladdin
they all have a raised border and embossed front. A little variation is lacking lately. They are different but the same. I guess Little Mermaid and Jungle Book will be the same.

I personally would have loved the mock up. No raised borders and no embossing

just opened my copy and can only echo what other people have said

the colours are fantasic and with the embossed title it just screams quality to me, and the case itself isn't as flimsy as some i have recieved this year so far

for me probably the best steelbook i've bought this year so far

Mark

and i would just like to thank the people of hi def for the work thats put in so we get the links to order these titles without missing out.

As opposed to no embossing at all? In that case a clear majority of Steelbooks are too similar with their lack of embossing. Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but sometimes I get the impression that some people will criticise Zavvi for anything they can. They deserve criticism for their customer service, for their occasional overpricing but not for a lack of options when it comes to Steelbook design/manufacturing.

I can see what you're getting at and I can totally respect that view. However, I do think there an innate limit as to how different G2 steelbooks can ever be.

With regards to your opinion of the mock-up (and I'm not suggesting it's a poor suggestion by any means), wouldn't it also be 'different but the same' as an umpteen number of other steels with no embossing and no border?

I do think you have a fair point though, and I believe that the various options for tailoring a steel should be used to best represent the movie inside. In this specific case, I have few complaints: the colours really pop, and the title embossing is great quality and stands out; the rear artwork is a nice callback to the teaser poster, and the inside art is one of the film's most iconic scenes.

nobody criticized zavvi. Just said the design philosophy is becoming monotonous. I know I am in the minority but some variation in the designing would be good. How about no raised border with emboss / deboss. Something different. Cant wait to get a copy from a friend. I said it was a good looking steel just with no character

I just wish it was possible to have such detailed embossing without a border.

I actually do think its possible but it must cost a premium or something as very few steels feature it. See steels like Green Hornet, Hunger Games D12, Righteous Kill...all embossed w/o a border, unlike WFRR which has a border albeit scaled down. So it can be done but I dont think it would look right on this steel without the traditional frame border imo.

I think the steels with no border work best on minimalistic designs e.g Hunger Games D12. Where the steel is mostly blank with a logo/title in the centre. I've never been a fan of those borders but that's where I feel no border works best.
