Hey guys! Wanted to share this with my fellow US & Canada members.

I suppose some of our European members can benefit from this as well.

I think this is very news worthy for all us steelbook collectors, so it deserves it's own thread for now. :scat:

I just got an order in from amazon.de and I was very surprised at the SIZE
of the box that appeared, just for 6 steelbooks. Well, it appears that for any
NEW release, that they haven't packaged up yet or a catalog release that might be on backorder (like my order of Judge Dredd was), they have a new box. EEK! :oohyeah:

We all remember that the package had been improved recently to bubble wrap inside a foldover box. :movie:

Well, now there is a new box, frustration free packaging, SPECIFICALLY labeled for steelbooks / metal packaging.

Pics below of the box, before opening and then after I opened it.

I guess they FINALLY decided to hear all people's complaints about dings and dents. Or felt a "pain in the pocket" due to the partial/full refunds they had to give in such cases.

I just got 4x copies of Judge Dredd in the mail.

3x of them were in the box I posted about in the OP. The last was LOOSE in a much larger box.

I think it's luck of the draw - who packaged your item and when it was packaged. Could be that they're still working through the old inventory that was wrapped with bubble wrap and placed in another box...

Amazon.jp packaging is not that safe and I'm very lucky my Steelbook doesn't have dent. I'm very lucky :scat:

Best packaging in my case are:

Amazon.fr, amazon.de, amazon.ca, amazon.co.uk

Amazon.jp still a big question for me

Honestly I would take Amazon.jp packaging over Amazon.ca. Amazon.ca has a long way to go to improve the way they package their shipments.

Does anyone know if amazon.ca also began to pack in the same way their steelbooks, or their packaging is still on a poor level? This time i would like to order 5-6 steelbooks form amazon.ca but wonder if I will not regret it when I open the package. To this time i ordered only for two steelbooks in each one order from them, and get 2 dented in 8 of all I have from them.

At least we know that both Amazon.fr & .de are now using the new packaging, fingers-crossed for .ca as I want to preorder few of the new titles just need some confirmation first.

Got 3 Steels from Amazon.de the other day-each was in separate cardboard box with bubble wrap, and then packed inside another larger box. I was very happy. After years of careless packaging, I was happy to hear some of these collector outcries have been heard:)

That's music to my ears DB. I've started ordering a few steels from them recently so it's reassuring they are packaging well

Also got a load of Avengers steels from them which I managed to get orders in on nice and early for later in the year ;)

Amazon.ca still uses only a bubble-enveloppe. 2 Polar express steelbooks received, both dented.

I was lucky that the first one had a dent on the front and the second one had a dent on the back. Managed to create one good steelbook. (second steelbook was a free replacement from amazon.ca).

But I'm not ordering at amazon.ca anymore!

Amazon.ca and amazon.jp both retailer they dont know how to pack theyre steelbook. But still im very lucky when i ordered in amazon.jp and i didnt get any damage. Maybe my parcel takes only 1 day to reach in my place ( japan to london )

My favorite is amazon.fr i liked the way they packed :)

Thanks for the information, but sorry to hear that nothing has changed in their packaging, and also that you experienced this too :( This is confusing that amazon.ca have so many beauty steelbooks and can not organize a system of safe shipments and invest in better quality packaging, for that plays in replacement/refunds on what finally loses more money.

I have had mixed results with Amazon.ca. Originally my orders arrived in pristine condition but I had problems recently when I ordered Steelbooks during a one day sale. I even wrote to them to question whether or not is was a fire sale seeing as everything I had ordered had arrived dented but they denied it. I took no chances this time and have pre-ordered the new Alliance Steelbooks figuring I have a better chance to receive a better product at the release. If not back to Amazon.ca they will go.

Received Limitless from Amazon Canada today and expected their usual 'wing and a prayer' jiffy bag with zero protection as they usually do when sending single steels. To my surprise it was in a box with bubble protection. :D

I had that packadging (like the one for Judge Dredd) when I recieved Adjustment Bureau from Amazon UK a while back. Did find that although inside, the steel was protected very well at the top as it was held in place by cardboard, but at the bottom the inner card wasn't all the way round the corners so it could still slide down to the outer card potentially leaving the bottom of steel prone to getting dented from the outside (if that makes sense) so while better, a slightly flawed and overall pointless design

I got 3 this week from Amazon.UK without a glitch. That inner box acts as a buffer for the outer one more or less. It's not the best protection but it's much more reliable than the old way. I like it! :scat:
