ORIGINALY reported by Buffalo MX

Hey guys! Wanted to share this with my fellow US & Canada members.

I suppose some of our European members can benefit from this as well.

I think this is very news worthy for all us steelbook collectors, so it deserves it's own thread for now. :scat:

I just got an order in from amazon.de and I was very surprised at the SIZE
of the box that appeared, just for 6 steelbooks. Well, it appears that for any
NEW release, that they haven't packaged up yet or a catalog release that might be on backorder (like my order of Judge Dredd was), they have a new box. EEK! :oohyeah:

We all remember that the package had been improved recently to bubble wrap inside a foldover box. :movie:

Well, now there is a new box, frustration free packaging, SPECIFICALLY labeled for steelbooks / metal packaging.

Pics below of the box, before opening and then after I opened it.

I got 2 SBs from Amazon.es and they were in the SB packaging, but I have noticed the glue on the end has started to not stick very well. They even taped one of the flaps back down. Still works great and protects well. I think they might think about where they are storing these, as I am seeing it more and more.

I'm not a fan of the 'e flute' amazon packaging. It offers too much resistance in too narrow a place. If the package suffers any stress, it's very easy for it to get damaged as there's no crumple area to absorb the impact at the spots where the steelbook is held. The Play packaging is much better, especially when you add a little bit of bubble wrap to make sure the edges are shielded as well.

I really dont kow what happen the report taped says that box arrived in "as is" conditions and they tayped to prevent more damage or loose content, I dont know why amazon sent 2 packages for one order, I have sent an email about this with pics included

I'm a little concerned about my Amazon.uk order. :ohno: I placed an order on 05/31 for:

Safe House
Expendables
King of New York
Batman Begins/The Dark Knight x 2

The order has been held up for a month because of the BB/TDK SBs. Then they decided to ship the 3 that were released 2 days ago and now they are shipping the 2 BB/TDK SBs in seperate shipments. :wtf: WTH is their logic here? I chose for all to ship at once, and now that they shipped, it's 3 different shipments.

With the above posts, I do not have much hope. :(

I got two Geisha steelbooks from amazon.it last Thursday and they both arrived smashed, but funny enough, I think they were sent out that way. No damage to the box or anything like that - the damaged parts of the steelbooks were on the inside surface.

Top of first (undamaged)
Bottom of first (damaged)
Top of the second (damaged)
Bottom of the second (undamaged)

I guess amazon.it has yet to adopt the package from .fr or .de yet?

I only have ever ordered from AMZ UK & DE outside of AMZ CA & USA and have had zero issues with them. There packing is good now for both UK & DE. Had a couple steels arrive damaged from DE a couple years back and they were quick to replace without hassle.

Simon, I think it's hit or miss-sometimes they will send replacements, other times, they ask you to return them. Overall, though I would say that the Amazon sites are probably the most reliable at at least wanting to work with you to resolve issues by issuing a credit and or sending replacements. I can't say I've had the same 'ease' at HMV or other international retailers-at least not with the same easy customer service process and time frame....

This is just from my personal experiences.

Amazon.de/fr/es are spot on with their steelbook service and never skimp on packaging. .co.uk can be hit and miss, it took me three attempts to get a mint Minority Report from them, and judging by the damage it was already present in their warehouse.

If you order from Amazon.ca or .jp make sure you don't order just one steel as their packaging really is awful and will in all likelihood arrive damaged. .ca also have a few issues with their QC, gave up on trying to get a mint copy of Kill Bill vol 1 from them directly.

Like to point something out about Amazon UK.

Other week there were 2 irobot tins in stock, I bought one of them, received it and laughed as it looked like somebody had stomped on it such was its state...anyway, returned it and noticed a few days later amazon's stock jumped from '1' back to 2.

I can't believe they'd put the piece of garbage I sent back on the shelf and try flogging it to someone else...actually after amazon spain sent me the inglorious basterds on it's own (i.e. absolutely no packaging except the cellophane and address label) I've went into all amazon across all sites and cancelled my preorders...too much hassle for substandard services.

Not sure if this has been posted before but it seems like Amazon.ca is trying out some new packaging.

Anythings better than a jiffy bag!

Although steelbook arrived with a dent on the front. Not sure if the packaging is to blame though.

What's Amazon Italy like with shipping to the US? I'm interested in those new Twilight series coming out and was just curious about what the packages are like that come from Amazon.IT. Also what's there replacement/return procedure like?

When I got my damaged ones, I wrote to them via the English option and they sent me out replacements very quickly.

Shipping for two steels, (now twice for me) have been in a small wrap round box with no padding.
