Hey guys! Wanted to share this with my fellow US & Canada members.

I suppose some of our European members can benefit from this as well.

I think this is very news worthy for all us steelbook collectors, so it deserves it's own thread for now. :scat:

I just got an order in from amazon.de and I was very surprised at the SIZE
of the box that appeared, just for 6 steelbooks. Well, it appears that for any
NEW release, that they haven't packaged up yet or a catalog release that might be on backorder (like my order of Judge Dredd was), they have a new box. EEK! :oohyeah:

We all remember that the package had been improved recently to bubble wrap inside a foldover box. :movie:

Well, now there is a new box, frustration free packaging, SPECIFICALLY labeled for steelbooks / metal packaging.

Pics below of the box, before opening and then after I opened it.

Hey anyone buy alot from amazon Japan?

been browsing the site and thought ordering would be a cakewalk like other regions (because of the shared account details between regions). Unfortunately i couldn't login to the site with my usual account :(

Are there specific problems to amazon japan for international buyers? or is having to make a brand new amazon account just for japan the only real headache?

I've bought tons of stuff from UK and DE and I've had a few bad experiences, but a heck of a lot positive ones. They have great CS so I have no complaints with them.

Amazon.es is good too, but man it was a bit time consuming trying to get them to refund me for a lost package. They did it, but it took a few CS reps, they never denied it they just had bad communication among them. Item delivery takes a while though, always 15-20 days not sure why. I got stuff from Amazon uk and de a lot faster than them.

Received my copy of ET from Amazon UK today. Came in one of those cardboard mailers with no protection whatsoever. Opened it and found a huge dent in the SB, like something heavy had been pressed on one side.

Contacted their customer service to arrange for a return and was told to keep the damaged copy while they would send out a replacement. Fingers crossed this arrives safely. To be fair this is the first time I've received a damaged steel from Amazon UK, even in the cardboard mailers. :)

I haven't had a lot of experience with Amazon Japan, but I didn't have any issues the previous times I ordered from them. Think a separate account is needed if I remember correctly.

Also, for language issues, you can switch certain parts of the site to English by clicking on the 'In English' tab on the top of the main page, or simply navigate using Google Chrome. :)

Ok. Today was a bad day for amazon Japan and Germany. Every steelbook was dented. From Germany I had 3 Star Treks. All dented. Perfectly packaged. They were dented before they packaged them.

Amazon Japan. This one was a kick to the groin. I still feel sick from it. As we all know Paul Japan has been OOS for pretty much since after its release day. It said you can order and we will give you a timeframe or something to that nature. So I pretty much made a few orders. Today I get 5 envelopes in the mail. Paul is the only thing inside each one. Result= 5 dented steelbooks. I feel like shooting myself now. LOL. I cancelled pretty much all my orders with Amazon Japan and don't have any plans to order from them again. I also cancelled several orders from Germany and France and the U.K. amazons as well. I think I am about done with them. IF I need a steel and its exclusive I can always buy it on ebay.

End rant.

My only order from Amazon.co.jp was great. I got 2 separate shipments in ****** boxes.. but the steels came perfect, and the shipping time was unbelievable. Maybe 2 days from time of ship to my door. Amaz(on)ing!

A bad day you say? Damn... feel sorry for you buddy :(

Sounds like ordering from Amazon.jp is just as risky as ordering from Amazon.ca (probably more seeing how .ca have starting using proper protection recently).

Then there is the shipping price which seems kinda excessive + Customs/VAT lol. Thanks guys, i think i'll pass. I dont need anything that badly from them lol

Bought a few of the CA 14.99 steels recently.

All of them have come with some damage (nothing majot, a minor dent or scratch here and there), the packaging card is nice and thick so maybe they know they have imperfections on the steels and that's why they have reduced the price. I dunno, maybe. Anyone else had issues?

I know CA service is superb, but it's almost too superb, I feel like I'm taking advantage every time I complain, had to do it three times so far this year.

Got Sin City from CA today, my first experience of their new cardboard packaging - big improvement on their jiffy's.

As for damage, steel was jangling around inside the cardboard and didn't sound good, but luckily just a loose disc.

Don't know if this is the right area to post, but on Amazon.de, I was trying to order a copy of The Avenger Steelbook and it told me I wasn't able to order it yet. It says it will be in stock on the 7th of November, but shouldn't I be able to Pre-Order?

Hey guys... am just a rookie in this collection. Just starting off slow.. but i really really want that Transformers Revenge of the fallen steelbook. Can anyone help me out where i can get it for a decent price Please and Thank u.

More of a general point than a Steelbook related one, but why does Amazon automatically select First Class delivery when using the one click system? It's bloody annoying, especially since they don't allow you to choose Super Saver as default.

In the past couple of days I've received 3 damaged steelbooks from Amazon.ca, packaging was the usual cardboard sleeve. These steelbooks definitely left the warehouse damaged and dented.

I would wait and see what play.com are doing first, as they plan on releasing steels of all three separate Transformers movies i believe (1st one is up on their site now).

We might even get an official play.com Revenge of the Fallen announcement very late this year :)

Is it correct amazon.ca has started using protection? What do they do exactly?

My recent orders were still packaged like before, ie hardly any serious protection. The damage rate is almost 100% (international shipment). I have given up ordering. Is there a really a ray of light now?

^ Thanks. I have been getting this same packaging too. It is like a cardboard folder, instead of a sturdy box. I find it is not much an improvement over padded envelopes. The folder is easily dented or squashed by heavier parcels, causing damage to the steelbooks directly in contact with the cardboard inside.

I think for international shipments especially, the packages get thrown about quite a lot. The only way the steelbooks can be undamaged is that they are well padded and not in direct contact with the shipping box inside. I am waiting for the day that amazon.ca comes to the same conclusion.https://www.hidefninja.com/forums/images/smilies/cool.gif

Just got Ghostbusters in the mail.

They used the steelbook box, but for some reason did not use the slots, they wrapped it in bubble wrap and just sealed the box. :wtf:

I was looking at items in my shopping cart over amazon.co.uk and saw this little text

"Is delivered in Certified Frustration-Free Packaging"

I´ve noticed they´ve changed their packaging sometime back but I´m not sure where this Frustration-Free has ended up
