Hey guys! Wanted to share this with my fellow US & Canada members.

I suppose some of our European members can benefit from this as well.

I think this is very news worthy for all us steelbook collectors, so it deserves it's own thread for now. :scat:

I just got an order in from amazon.de and I was very surprised at the SIZE
of the box that appeared, just for 6 steelbooks. Well, it appears that for any
NEW release, that they haven't packaged up yet or a catalog release that might be on backorder (like my order of Judge Dredd was), they have a new box. EEK! :oohyeah:

We all remember that the package had been improved recently to bubble wrap inside a foldover box. :movie:

Well, now there is a new box, frustration free packaging, SPECIFICALLY labeled for steelbooks / metal packaging.

Pics below of the box, before opening and then after I opened it.

Does anyone know what packaging Amazon UK are using for steels these days? I'd heard they'd switched over to the new, slimline steelbook boxes where the contents are secured by a polythene wrapper, but the last 2 steelbooks I ordered from them came loose in a box with no protection.
I received my Robocop on Monday in that packaging with the polythene wrapper.

I haven't actually bought anything from amazon(uk) or zavvi before so I am trying to decide what site would be best for international shipping. Anyone have some opinions on the two for shipping to the US?

With Zavvi, if things arrive fine then all's great, especially with £0.99 shipping. But in the event things go south, your experience will depend on who handles your support request. Honestly a nightmare most of the time.

With Amazon though, you pay a little more for shipping, but if their CS has always been stellar so far when any problems arise. Packaging is better (most of the time) and do note that VAT is removed for international orders.

I'd take Amazon over Zavvi any day. Might end up paying a little more but you get assurance in return. ;)

I have received a replacement of this steelbook.. (I still haven't sent the first one back)
The condition of the replacement is far worse than the one I already complained about.. Despite me mentioning to amazon.de that they need to make sure it was sent appropriately packed.. It was sent in a Jiffy bag again. Shrink wrap was torn, with scratches where it was ripped. Plus dents in the same place as the first. (I'll update with pics tomorrow)
Now I don't want them to think I am just complaining for the sake of complaining but I mentioned the condition of the last one was unacceptable and the fact that it was sent in a Jiffy bag but they have repeated the same again.

Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do?

This is the second time and was promised one appropriately packed and in new condition but it's not.

Do I send them both back and claim my money back or do I send yet another complaint?

Well mate, I have had similar experiences with Shitazon and not just shitazon.de but all the others with the japanese one being an exception.

I have stopped buying from them due to the same reason and I'd rather spend a little more to get it from some eBay seller and have some peace of mind. As for advice, these people never send replacements twice unless they created a 'New' replacement order for you. I would suggest you get your money back and buy it off eBay for a little more.

Coming to them CS representatives 'promising' to 'appropriately packing and stuff', believe me those are their generic replies they write to everyone and one thing I have noticed is that there is absolutely no coordination among the different departments of shitazon. The CS representative (Outsourced- sitting in some another country) says it will be packed well and the packaging idiots don't even know about it and Voila, you get another damaged steelbook!

All that I've written above comes from my personal experience. Till date I have bought countless items from them and steelbooks being the major purchases among others. I can say that I used to buy no less than 20 items every month and their filthy packaging standards apply to every item without exception and I'm not exaggerating here!

I know how frustrating it gets, so I saved myself the trouble of buying from them again and I'm a happy man

Complain first, you might get to keep them all

I just received an order of 3 Steelbooks yesterday, each in the new slimline boxes with polythene wrapper you refer to above. Additionally the three boxes were placed in a larger box with a piece of craft paper. The Steelbooks were all in mint condition.

I received something like that a couple of weeks ago, but it didn't stop the steelbook from being damaged. I was not happy with amazon.co.uk either, when I returned the steelbook at a cost of $12.75, they refunded me £1.49! OK, it's good that amazon pay for return shipping, but if they say they're going to credit you they could at least get the refund right.

I returned a damaged steelbook to Amazon.it and they refunded me the right amount for return shipping. They just said to make sure the amount paid was clearly marked on the package. I worried that I wouldn't get the right amount back, but I did.

Can somebody please assist me with a query regarding placing two pre-order items in the same order? I ordered one released in April and the other in May, will Amazon wait until May to dispatch both of the steelbooks or send them out separately on the day as specified? Thanks.

Cancellation of Free international Super Saver Shipping :(
I just went online today to place a super saver delivery order to Holland. I was informed by one of your customer service representatives that the european free super saver delivery service ceased today. I am extremely dissapointed at the abrupt way that amazon cancelled this service and the drastic change in pricing structure for delivery. Could Amazon have not considered a more customer friendly method of introducing delivery charges? Amazon has a number of loyal customers in the EU, who will be affected significantly by this change.

Anyone in the UK ever ordered from amazon.ca? Their Standard International Shipping claims to take 6-8 weeks, is that true?

I ordered many times from Amazon Ca ... their standard int.shipping takes only 2 days with dhl (tracked) ;)

But i must warn you : their packaging is very bad .... 70 % chance it arrive dented or scratched ... its Always a gamble !

Received this from Amazon.uk yesterday. I've requested a replacement and have to return my damaged copy. Crossing my fingers that my replacement doesn't arrive in a similar condition.

Edit: Just received an email stating that I can keep the original and dispose of it as I wish rather than return it due to the prohibitively expensive cost of shipping. :)

lately i had the problem, that all Steelbooks from amazon.fr arrive either with a dent or the coulours are like scratched on some spots. I bought older ones (2years old +), anyone encountered same?
And they don't use the good packaging when u buy more then one aparently, since mine arestacked above each other in the same carton with much space to move and without further protection...
