ORIGINALY reported by Buffalo MX

Hey guys! Wanted to share this with my fellow US & Canada members.

I suppose some of our European members can benefit from this as well.

I think this is very news worthy for all us steelbook collectors, so it deserves it's own thread for now. :scat:

I just got an order in from amazon.de and I was very surprised at the SIZE
of the box that appeared, just for 6 steelbooks. Well, it appears that for any
NEW release, that they haven't packaged up yet or a catalog release that might be on backorder (like my order of Judge Dredd was), they have a new box. EEK! :oohyeah:

We all remember that the package had been improved recently to bubble wrap inside a foldover box. :movie:

Well, now there is a new box, frustration free packaging, SPECIFICALLY labeled for steelbooks / metal packaging.

Pics below of the box, before opening and then after I opened it.

Received my steelbooks from Amazon.ca today. Looks mint but Sucker Punch had a loose disc and a tear in the shrink wrap. Blade Runner appears fine though. :D

This is my 2nd lot of orders from Amazon Canada, the last of which was less that 50% received being perfect.

This time I got 1 mint steelbook out of 4. 2 had horrific shrink wraps and other had a rattling disc.

This is simply not good enough and I don't give a **** how good their customer service is. Having the time and patience to get replacements is very time consuming especially via online chat.

When are they going to understand how to pack a steelbook?

Received my Steelbook of Full Metal Jacket from amazon.ca yesterday and it looked like a giant elephant had stomped on the middle!!!! Totally bent and a completely trashed Steel.:angry:

The thing is that the packaging was ok, certainly not the usual bubble envelope and had no visible damage to it, so I am thinking that it was sent out from the warehouse in that state!

They have already issued me a new one free of charge and refunded the cost of the damaged one as well, but as good as that is the state in which the steelbook arrived is unacceptable, and I agree all the messing around to get a replacement is really putting me off ever buying from amazon.ca again!!!

Plus I have little faith that the replacement will arrive in mint condition!!!!
:(

Maybe its just me but 100% of my SB orders from amazon.ca has arrived damaged. I've come to the conclusion there must be a SB troll that lives in there warehouse whose only purpose in life if cause destruction to every SB before shipping.

I guess I'm lucky. The two Goodfella's that I ordered from amazon.ca turned up mint. The one I opened though has the manufacturing defect under the sticker on the front cover.

On a separate note, I have now had two orders ship from amazon (amazon.de & amazon.fr) with no tracking. This is new because every order I have made from amazon.fr and amazon.de since I started collecting steelbooks has come tracked.

My SB copy of The Departed arrived two days ago from Amazon.ca, it was in a bubble-wrapped envelope but luckily it was ok, not a scratch on it thankfully.

I ordered 300, The Matrix, Sucker Punch and The Departed from the Amazon.ca sale. I hoped for the best but none of them were mint:

300 has a crushed spine and a loose disc, The Departed has a dent to the bottom of the case (visible from the front), Sucker Punch has a slashed spine and a loose disc and The Matrix has a loose disc. 3 of the 4 damaged, 3 of the 4 with a loose disc.

A replacement order has been sent out - who knows, I ma even get the original print of Succker Punch as the replacement is the later version! As everyone has always said, brilliant customer service but they shouldn't need to do this if they just improve their packaging....

They are kindly sending this via Expidited International Shipping (although standard seems pretty fast usually!) but they have charged me $113 for the order andd will refund it. What this means is that DHL will phone me next week and ask me to pay another £5 admin fee and £13.68 in VAT (as the first order at sale price was £5 admin and £6.84 in VAT). Just spoken to an Amazon.ca rep on chat and will now be requesting a refund of taxes and charges for the replacement order when it arrives!

if u got damaged sale items, better to just request a full refund and leave it at that, as amazon will declare replacements with the full normal price, meaning u get r@ped by customs. ;)

Also Blade Runner has been oos since the sale & Sucker Punch may also be gone again by the time they process your replacement.

Sucker Punch has 99 in stock... My replacement order is sitting there, been created, just no expected dispatch/delivery date yet. At least they should be able to refund the customs charges as well!

This is the packing or lack of it I got my Media Market Steelbook of Chronicles of Narnia with Lenticular cover, from (Amazon.de) in!!!! EEK!
With my heart in my mouth I opened it and thank god it was mint!
Not even a piece of bubble wrap wround the Steelbook, just placed in side with no protection at all...

They will pay back customs charges? Wow that's some great service :scat:

...hey, now that i think about it, isn't Expedited shipping supposed to pay customs charges up front anyway?
If so I shouldn't of had to refuse delivery on my replacements for Equilibrium a while back, which was also sent via expedited i think, but still got stung by customs :wtf:

I also had a replacement order created for four Steelbooks I ordered from them. I got hit with charges of £11.84 and £13.84 for the two packages (though I don't doubt Amazon will refund me). Add this to the cost of sending me two sets of the same items, if this doesn't persuade them to sort out their packaging I don't know what will. They've wasted an absolute fortune which could have been avoided with a bit of bubble wrap costing a few pence.

Received my replacement order from Amazon.ca this morning, only shipped on Friday @ 23.30 UK time!!! Expedited delivery apparantly does mean customs is paid for, so no charges on this replacement. Thanks for the awesome customer service but no thanks for the rubbish packaging on both orders!

This one was pretty mint though, apart from a couple of small wrap tears which could be from the warehouse or from the fact that there is nothing between the steels...

How are amazon.de for packaging as I've had a few steels off amazon.it and the packaging was superb in one of those card steel holders what hold the steel inside then came in another big box.

Ordered from amazon.fr a different story a Steelbook came today wrapped with the thin card around it no protection whatsoever and worse a dent on the front of the Steelbook got another 2 steels coming from them as well fear the worse ;( I wont use them again !!!!I do want to use amazon.de as i want a few off them but if it's the same packaging as amazon.fr I will give it a miss
