Hey guys! Wanted to share this with my fellow US & Canada members.

I suppose some of our European members can benefit from this as well.

I think this is very news worthy for all us steelbook collectors, so it deserves it's own thread for now. :scat:

I just got an order in from amazon.de and I was very surprised at the SIZE
of the box that appeared, just for 6 steelbooks. Well, it appears that for any
NEW release, that they haven't packaged up yet or a catalog release that might be on backorder (like my order of Judge Dredd was), they have a new box. EEK! :oohyeah:

We all remember that the package had been improved recently to bubble wrap inside a foldover box. :movie:

Well, now there is a new box, frustration free packaging, SPECIFICALLY labeled for steelbooks / metal packaging.

Pics below of the box, before opening and then after I opened it.

Received 5 steels from Amazon UK today. One of them (The Thing) was tossed in the box with no protection, had no shrink-wrap and had paint damage. I have no doubt that I will receive a replacement for free but you would think that maybe they could at least send new product as stated in the listing in the first place. They have totally picked the wrong time to be dropping the ball with Zavvi stepping up to the plate.

I bought a steelbook from a seller fulfilled by Amazon, with same returns policy as Amazon. I have opened the item, it has a small ping dent on the spine, OCD in me is eating me alive. I have removed the packaging obviously and didnt realise until recently when the light hit the dent. Now I want to return it, not sure if they will take it without shrink wrap or j-card??

Anyone had any similar experiences, and how did it turn out?!

Do Amazon accept open items?

Yes they do accept open items. All you need to do is contact the customer support and tell them about the defect and they'll ask you to return (though sometimes they would even offer a full refund while asking you to keep the defective item). Once the return reaches them, you'll get the refund.

But please be careful and be on the lookout when the item gets delivered because there have been many instances with me when Amazon received the return almost a week back and they never told me . So, I had to track the return package down and had to contact them twice before they refunded.

Amazon UK just stopped offering Free Super Saver Delivery outside EU. This delivery option was one of the main reasons why I always preferred to check Amazon UK first. Their customer service has been excellent, especially compared to most other online retailers I've used in the UK. However, £4 extra on every order might lead me to use other stores in the future (I'll still stay far away from Zavvi on most non-exclusive products).

AMAZON UK: Changes to FREE Super Saver Delivery:

Which European countries are currently eligible for FREE Super Saver Delivery?

FREE Super Saver Delivery on eligible orders over £25 is currently available to Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Gibraltar, Iceland, Republic of Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and Sweden.

FREE Super Saver Delivery to Italy, Spain, Andorra, Greece, Liechtenstein, Norway, San Marino and the Vatican City on eligible orders over £25 was available on orders placed up to and including June 11, 2013 (GMT).

Has anyone else had problems with Amazon.de recently?

Yes, the last three separate orders I made for steelbooks in a row arrived damaged, including Gangster Squad and The Last Stand. One a spine slash, the other a light scratch going across the front where the cardboard of the packaging had cut through the plastic and gone onto the box.

I haven't sent them back because I can't be arsed to go to a post office to send them back. For example when I get a damaged product from the French or Canadian versions of Amazon, they say I don't have to send it back and then just send out a replacement.

Before these steelbooks, never had a problem with Amazon.de with steelbooks.

As for returning, I have returned one steelbook to Amazon.de before and they refunded the full cost of the postage it cost me to send it back to Germany. So you shouldn't be getting part of a refund for the postage you paid to send something back.

For the damage caused by the new packaging i.e. where the cardboard lightly slashed the front of your steelbook, you can share your views and opinions in the thread below that was started specifically because many international buyers are suffering from the same problem. The cardboard holders are very sharp and cannot substitute soft foam or bubble wrap.

does anyone know if you can use an amazon discount code on any amazon site? e.g amazon.it? or will it only work for amazon.co.uk? thanks!

Well I believe these codes are website specific i.e. you can only use the Amazon.co.uk code on Amazon.co.uk and not on Amazon.it or .de or any other for that matter. But sometimes, there can be a glitch in the system too, so you can always try before finally placing your order and it might work.

Cheers!

Slightly disappointed with my amazon uk order of life of pi today, it came in a cardboard mailer rather than the steelbook packaging for the first time :( :ohno:

Luckily damage free as far as I can see.

Hey good to know it's fine . Because I have stopped buying from anything that says "Amazon" becasue of their filthy packaging. I either get my steels from Zavvi or if it ain't available there, then eBay. Better to pay a little more for your peace of mind because one ends up spending even more when you get a damaged steel and have so much mental frustration especially if you're OCD and have to burn the fuel to go back to the post office to return it and pay return shipping as well

So better boycott websites that ruin my health

I was very surprised at the packaging i got today and it was the first time i actually got it like this from amazon. I know what you mean, its a pain going back to the post office to return damaged steels :ohno:

This is what Amazon UK used to ship 4 steelbooks in, a rather large box.

Each steelbook inside was packaged in its own box but yeah, quite a bit of packaging...

This big box has been a lot of trouble lately as a box this big attracts the customs attention and sometimes they would slap a huge duty by just looking at the size of the box and considering the actual customs slip as an undervaluation of the contents

On top of that the "Frustration-Causing Boxes" inside add to your frustration by tearing the shrink wrap at the edges and scuffing the steelbooks

I don't understand what was wrong with the previous method of packaging steelbooks in a bubble envelope and then inside a cardboard sleeve which in turn was placed in a medium sized box in case you ordered more than 2 steelbooks. If only I could find the wise guy behind this new packaging, only I know what I would do to him   :violent:

Yeah, just got a big box from Amazon.uk this morning with all of my Batman stellbooks in their own individual little boxes too. Not a mark on them either, so I've no issues with the packaging.

Only the second time I've ordered steelbooks from Amazon and they've packed them the same way each time, with no problems, so I can't fault them on that.

Off subject slightly as I could not find an Amazon UK thread, how unfair does it seem that so many steelbooks are released with the German, French, Italian Amazon sites yet the UK get hardly any in comparison.

Today, I received the 3 steelbooks from Amazon.fr

Surprisingly, one steelbook is not in manufacturer plastic sealed and in used condition with scratches and dents on the spine. EEK!

I sent an e-mail to amazon.fr. I hope they understand English. I also include google translation to French language in my email as well.

I hope they will send me a replacement without sending this used steelbook back to France from Australia. :(

Don't worry palartoo, first of all they won't ask you to send it back. But even if they do, they cover your return shipping costs. So, no problem there.

Actual problem is that even the replacement(s) that they'll be sending will have some tears in the shrink wrap due to their filthy packaging which scuffs the steelbooks across the front and back where the holders are. So, that is a concern.

Being OCD about steels, I have stopped buying from Amazon now and usually buy from other sites/eBay even if that means paying a little more. Because in any case you end up paying more with Amazon as well in terms of health, fuel while going back to the post office, botheration, packaging, time, etc. ;)
