ORIGINALY reported by Buffalo MX

Hey guys! Wanted to share this with my fellow US & Canada members.

I suppose some of our European members can benefit from this as well.

I think this is very news worthy for all us steelbook collectors, so it deserves it's own thread for now. :scat:

I just got an order in from amazon.de and I was very surprised at the SIZE
of the box that appeared, just for 6 steelbooks. Well, it appears that for any
NEW release, that they haven't packaged up yet or a catalog release that might be on backorder (like my order of Judge Dredd was), they have a new box. EEK! :oohyeah:

We all remember that the package had been improved recently to bubble wrap inside a foldover box. :movie:

Well, now there is a new box, frustration free packaging, SPECIFICALLY labeled for steelbooks / metal packaging.

Pics below of the box, before opening and then after I opened it.

I just ordered 4 steelbooks from amazon.fr with the 4 blus for less €20 promo. For some reason they split shipment into two, first shipment has three steels the other is one. The promo has been divided accordingly on the order summary. Both are in preparation for shipping status, but the second shipment with the one steel has a later ETA. I wonder if I can cancel that and still have the promo applied to the first shipment which adjusted comes to around €14.

If it already says shipment in process, then you cannot cancel. If not, if it still says not yet shipped, then the only way to be certain is to wait for the first 3 items to be shipped out then you can cancel the last item safely.

Follow as Real Steel says. Then once the first 3 items have been shipped, send them a mail immediately and ask them to cancel the 4th item and if it is still not shipped till then, they will cancel it.

Amazon.uk sent my copy of Oblivion Steelbook in a A1 cardboard mailer today...

Don't know how but it arrived in mint condition this time..:dunno:

I really hope its not going to turn into a lottery with them regarding what packaging you get with your steels. :ohno:

The only good thing is that I hardly ever buy steels from them anyway these days...:movie:

^ Amazon.uk packaging is always a lottery. They sent my Bond 50 Collector's Set in a cardboard mailer. Cost £40 to have me sent the dented heavyweight back for replacement. Wonder what they did with the damaged set after that. :D

I think I figured out their packaging methods.....:squint: :naughty:

They send out all the domestic shipments in those ****** cardboard mailers and all the international orders in those ****** "Frustration-Causing Packaging"

Either way, their packaging and they themselves are F***ing pieces of ****

^ Yeah, that's how much I hate them. They are so stubborn that in spite of leaving a feedback every time and most of the people including myself returning almost all of our consignments every time, they still continue to follow the same packaging standards, while small retailers like JSDVD, Kimchi, etc. package their steels in such a nice manner and even customize on special requests.

My Oblivion Steelbook from Amazon UK came in the frustration free packaging.

But my last three Steelbooks from Amazon FR came in such cardboard mailers like the time before they improved their packaging. Is it possible that Amazon comes back to their old packaging?

Not until all of us (who have had bad experience/damaged steels or who detest their bad packaging) start writing to them and ask for replacements or full refunds every time we get our products in that Frustration Causing Packaging.

This will act as a global phenomenon and upon doing their cost benefit analysis, they will realize that their new packaging is leading to more losses than profits (These companies conduct surveys frequently and this will definitely have an impact).

I'm one of those who never had luck with their new packaging. That is why I always make it a point to write to them every time and ask for a full refund because the replacements are going to be packaged the same way

Moreover, in all the messages I write to them, I include a link to this thread and my THREAD which I had started after getting sick and tired of their filthy packaging .

Maybe if everyone starts doing it on a regular basis, the change can happen. I'm doing my part!

^I don't think it would help. Amazon ask for packaging feedback but never listen. They ship thousands of items a day. Steelbooks are a very small part of the business. The refunds and replacements cost them less than implementing new time-consuming methods of packaging.

True. But they used to package the steels in a bubble envelope and then inside a thick cardboard mailer (not the new flimsy one) which in turn were boxed in a bigger box whenever I ordered 2 or more steels. This was till the end of 2011. I always received my steels in mint condition unless it was damaged from their warehouse itself, there was absolutely no casualty while in transit

If they have done it in the past, they can do it again following the feedback. We are not asking for something new or extraordinary that they haven't done before.

I understand about the volume of their products and sales, but what would happen if almost every international buyer started complaining about their steel packaging. It will definitely attract Amz's attention towards the new steel packaging, I'm sure.

After all, even the new frustration causing packaging was a result of surveys and consumer feedbacks ;)

Oh, I only started collecting steelbooks in late 2012 so didn't know about the prior packaging. :) Yeah, that will be fast and effective protection. Just place each steelbook in a bubble envelope and put them all in a box. The "frustration free" boxes are not very effective and such a waste of resources.

I don't know how Amazon management processes feedback but every time you get same standard reply from Amazon customer service. Their customer service is mostly outsourced and normal employees are not too keen to go beyond their responsibilities. It will work only if there's a way our feedback can reach higher management.

Are you guys all in Europe? If so, maybe they use better packaging only when shipping overseas.

I say that because I'm in Brazil and I received my Oblivion steelbook from Amazon.UK in a very nice protective packaging, perhaps even a bit exaggerated.

There was a steelbook specific protective box like this (pics are not mine, nor from Oblivion, but the packaging was identical)...

...inside another cardboard box!

And it wasn't only me, a couple people here received it in the same fashion.

We are international buyers like you and even we receive our steels in such boxes (This is the packaging they use for overseas orders). This is their new packaging that we are detesting by the way. Even in your pictures, you can clearly see those killer cardboard holders on the 2 sides holding the steel. They mostly tear through the shrink wrap and scratch the steel surface. And even if they don't tear, they still cause some marring due to friction EEK!:(

If yours is still in mint condition, maybe you're lucky. But I never had any luck with this packaging. So, I have stopped buying from them now :(

^ Actually, because the slots are too tight for the J-card slip, most Amazon packers tear the slots wide first to fit in the steelbook. So the steelbook ends up knocking loose about and getting friction tears on the seal.

So it is frustration causing not only for us but for the packers too. :D

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, when you try to contact the customer service, when you click on help, you have the option of choosing to "chat" which will allow you to resolve any issues you have in real time. I have tried this with both Italy and Spain. FYI,the conversation you have with the rep must be in their native language. Use bing translator to help you. It was a big plus to be able to chat since you never know when you can hear back from your email.

I ordered two Firefly from Co.Uk that were supposed to be in on the 3rd.
One of them came in on time, but I still have not received the other.
Monday they told me to wait until yesterday to give it enough time.

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't received one of the item 'Firefly - The Complete Series (Limited Edition Steelbook) [Blu-ray] [2002]' which was placed with the order #xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxxx. It may have been lost during delivery.

I completely understand your disappointment. That's definitely not what we want our customers to experience.

For your convenience, I have placed a new order #xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxxx for the same item and it'll be dispatched as soon as possible to the same address:

As your original order was placed using our First class Delivery method, I have upgraded your replacement to Priority Express delivery to make sure you get it as soon as possible, at no extra charge to you.

Your replacement order is scheduled for dispatch on September 13, 2013 for guaranteed delivery on September 16, 2013.

If the original parcel arrives afterwards, please keep it with our compliments, as the cost of returning this parcel would be prohibitively expensive. Perhaps you'd like to donate it to a charity in your area if you feel it would be appropriate to do so.

If I do receive 2 more (the replacement and the missing one) I'll put one up for a giveaway! :scat:
