An Open Letter to BluFans, Let's Talk about Kevin

Hi members of HiDefNinja, it is with some sadness that I write to you today about the end of an era here at HDN.

Recently a situation unfolded where one of our group buy hubs was accused of stealing a number of copies of a BluFans release, and was told that they needed to repay Kevin over $1,000 to replace the items that were lost.

The items in question represent less than 1% of the total items in a BluFans print run.

Some people would have you believe this is just a "disagreement" between HDN and Kevin.

If you are new to HDN, or perhaps just not aware of how these group buys work with BluFans - the hubs, the persons responsible for shipping out hundreds upon hundreds of steelbooks work for very little (if any) compensation. I would propose that our hubs are some of the most trustworthy members here and a great asset to this site. Often they do their best to combine shipping for you to reduce the cost in general and bring you a great release, safely packaged and delivered - such that you do not have to rely on ebay sellers or other folks that will mark these items up.

Having said that, packages sent from BluFans are done in the following way.

1) They are marked a very low value and as "plastic" cards to avoid customs
2) Tracking numbers, are rarely shared with the hubs.
3) There is no invoice or packing slip that state how many items should have been received.
4) Sometimes members are left off or missed in the creation of the lists. Meaning the count of the total items sent is not always accurate.

Therefore, as a hub on this forum, there is a level of trust that we put in not only BluFans, but also bluraysteel (Kevin) to accurately and correctly convey our responsibilities in delivering these releases to you. To give you an idea, one box (only one!) of BluFans steels can exceed $900 in total value.

These boxes are NOT insured! So what happens when items are lost, not sent, or the records are incorrect? It appears that they will come after the group buy hubs! :(

And as this trust has now been violated, as no hub now or previously (unless they keep very thorough records of every shipment made, to every member that is on their list) can completely disprove the accusation that has been made. We have nothing at our disposal that can show without a doubt what we say is true, despite the pictures on our threads of the items, the posts about when we received them, and the other information we very publicly share with you, our members, to keep you up to date.

To restate this...it has been said that one of us, one of our hubs, is not a person that can be trusted.

I've gone to great lengths to personally investigate this question and provide pictures, posts and other information that show very clearly that HDN nor our hub stole from BluFans.

I think we can all agree that we love BluFans releases. We love the package, we love their thought and care that is put into creating a wonderful collectors items. But it seems as though bluraysteel has decided to take all of his group buys somewhere else in retaliation for not sending him $1000.

I cannot stop you from supporting BluFans releases, and I'm not asking you to not buy their steelbooks. But I would like you to consider that you will not receive the support from moderators and staff members on other forums that you have received here. There likely will not be any quantity per member limits that are enforced. There will not be the hubs you have worked with so many times before. I hope there are not other challenges as well.

I would like to take this opportunity to call on BluFans, to call on Abu to replace bluraysteel as the liaison between our two forums, and to instead use someone that can work with HDN, and will not turn on HDN or our hubs so quickly.

For members of my UP 3D slip hub, as far as I'm aware some of these are on the way to me currently - and if they do arrive, I will continue to assist in completing this group buy and bring you the items you paid for.

Dear Members
First of all, allow me apologize the current situation between me and HDN. That might leave you with lots of questions and anxiety. I would like you to know that is not caused by my will. I am probably being portraited as an evil scammer and Blufans as a greedy empire by the open letter from HDN. That is only one side of story you heard, now I feel you deserve to hear the other side of the story. As a group buy member, you have the right to know the real truth.

OK, Let’s talk about Kevin, a real me is middle-age guy with three beautiful daughters. I came to Canada at the age of 18 from China. I have almost 10-year working experience in the Banking business plus 10-year working experience in my own family business. In the most of my career, I am dealing with various customers all the time. I know how to treat the customers and I always put their needs and satisfaction as a top priority and you guys are no exception. I start collecting the steelbooks about 10 years ago that is in the DVD era. And falling love ever since. Being a good friend with the Blufans owner , ABU, I often gave him some advices to better their products and bridge the Blufans group buys for the members at HDN. Blufans is a Blu-ray forum base company in China. Due to the unique situation in Chinese movie industry, Blufans is able to secure the mainstream movie copyright with the studios. Abu is a hard working guy and never comprise the quality over quantities. And he constantly listens to the input from fans to make the products better. That is why Blufans exclusive line can gain so much fan base in such a short period of time. By working with Blufans for almost three years, I trust they are a caring company with real passions. Their success can be discounted by some counter parts as an evil and no wonder you guys have seen in that open letter with nothing good about Blufans, simply jealousy? I don’t know? you tell me! But being rather a young company, there are some areas of improvement Blufans should take notes and your feedbacks and suggestions are all welcome. And to better service your diehard fans, the English web shop is under-construction and should go live within couple months. And you can preorder all upcoming Blufans releases with a great price then. I will be the one who charges the customer service side.
You guys must be wondering why I was banned at HDN. That is all start with missing OZ copies at UK hub. Blufans has sent 18 boxes of 260 copies, whereas there are only 236 on the EU list. Here is all EMS tracking for the 18 boxes:

All the tracking # showed the packages successfully delivered with the postal card.
Then where is the extra of 24 copies go? It is no matter the percentage in these particular print-run and dollar amount. The principle is the reason for the shortage. I didn’t accuse someone at HDN stealing them. It might cause the double shipping to some members. That is why I sent a further investigation to the matter to one of Mod. Oddly enough, I was banned abruptly by challenging the authority with my stance. By doing that, they can stop me voicing out my side of the story and hijacked members interests in the middle of group buy process. The reason I am being banned on the black and white is threaten the site. How interesting is that! What the power do I possess to have? I don’t have the weapon of massive destruction of banning the member’s speech. If I said about abandon the hub services in any future Blufans group buys, yes I am guilty of that. LOL! Talking about a threat, I got one from the mod. He said he is going to refuse all packages of UP3D slip to hubs in order to create PR nightmare for Blufans. Honestly I am shocked to see that . Anyways, I found that is so unprofessional dealing over such an easy issue and I am not going to talk about that full of BS open letter anymore. In fact I am not the person who like to brag about my contribution to that site and how much traffic I bring with these group buys. I think you guys know better. By the way, thank you for your supports from many of my regular customers. You mean a lot to me! Thanks! But in the end, that is how they treated me. I felt betrayed and speechless. Maybe you can’t feel my broken heart if you are not in my shoes. Anyways, I am leaving that site for good. I only feel sorry for all the group buy members. I left you in limbo, but there are nothing I can do and without saying goodbye to all of you. But you know how to reach me now by this email and my pm box at Blu-ray.com. The Blufans group buys now are moving the Blu-ray.com. Sorry you need to re-register your name for Monster University. And I hope the hubs at HDN will continue to be in service for UP3D slip for all members for the last time. The shipping of that to the hubs is resumed as you read the letter. On the bright side, I can deliver you some good news. Thor 1 and 2 will have WEA plan from Blufans as a double pack release. Frozen WEA is in making. Hey everyone ... I have nothing to hide so just wanted to post publicly Kevin's explanation. Here ya go!

At the end of the day ... he protected his best interest and that is blufans and thus even tho he didnt pack these items he somehow magically knows how much was in each. Its all a big "he-says-she-says". Sorry kev no one from HDN or its mods have any unpaid product.

As for your owed GB fees, keep it perhaps you need it to pay for the lost steels that blufans is charging you up for. ... nice exit from HDN ... open the english world-wide ship store. Sounds good to me! No more need for GB hosts!!! I have a family too, and a dog :p ... oh and I work in the oil and gas industry and business is boomin' ... :)

HDN is for fun ... and that will continue!

Sorry if I sound harsh at times folks ... I'm from Texas and we still settle things "out back" ;)

now onto more important things .... like, dinner!

But we have secured 40 copies of the 3D and 40 copies of the 2D slip of Monsters U.

The steelbooks will ship direct from China to your location, the group buy will be live at a scheduled time next week - further details to come.

Now, on to my real announcement.

If you, our faithful members would like to keep BluFans group buys here until their English store is open, then this is what you need to do.

If you'd like to continue to give HDN your support, do not join any future group buys posted on that other forum. Vote with your wallet.

And why would you do that? Because BluFans wants to sell copies. And we want them to sell YOU, our members these copies.

They have to go somewhere to sell them, right?

I have heard that they will want to move their entire print run like they always have, and to make that possible they will need HDN support.

Let's keep these group buys here, by showing them that we want them to stay here!!

So vote with your membership, and let's keep these group buys here.

Never planned to join the other forum just for a blufans group buy as I think it would not be fair to hidef. Having these group buys here is much more assuring as people hosting these here are trying to make everything as transparent and comfortable as possible and that's what I like about the forum!

To tell you the truth, I'd rather join a Blufans Group Buy here than anywhere else!! I feel more welcomed here and also like the others think that the MODS & STAFF (especially Apsmith, Digitalbabe & Wreck) does wonderful jobs and I have faith & trust in them as well!
 
How come the thread was closed for a while?

Anyhow, while Kevin did a lot of work (which is always appreciated), I had NO IDEA he was from Canada. I assumed he was in China, hence being able to source the steels for the GB's.

Seems a bit silly if you ask me, using a middle man that's in a different country. Surely there must be a way for Blu-fans to just send everything to the HDN Hubs directly?

A bit late logging on here this morning. Big announcement!! Will this use the existing hubs Andy?

Just one sugestion to clarify this issue.
Someone could get the weight of one steelbook and the weight of each package.
With the weights you could estimate how many steelbooks were in each package.
It won't be accurate but it will give an idea of the quantity of each box. If 24 steelbooks are missing the discrepancy should be big.

I´m not planing to register on the other site so i hope Blufans will return to HDN. At least my wallet stays closed untill they do or they open their english webshop
 
I was a member on the other site anyway, and have joined the group buy over there but would rather use HDN. :scat:

Has anyone noticed the missing tracking number in the letter. EEK!
