Special announcement, April 15 2014
hey guys, official announcement from ES.

Hi,

Thank you for pre-ordering the Anchorman 2 SteelBook with the Entertainment Store.

We have received advanced copies of the product and have noticed that through the manufacturing process there has been a small amount of stretching on the corners of the SteelBook. We have been assured by the manufacturer of the SteelBook, Scanavo, that this is a manufacturing trait associated with the high gloss finished that has been used. Please see link below for an image of the stretching.

Whilst this is a manufacturing trait we do appreciate that for some customers this could potentially be a problem. We are contacting you ahead of shipping the product to highlight this trait to give you the opportunity to change your mind on your order before we ship you the product.

We will of course accept all returns and provide a full refund if you are unsatisfied with the product once your receive it in line with our standard terms and conditions.

Thank you for your custom,

The Entertainment Store

So..... ES puts the original price as £26.99 yet Zavvi can afford to sell them for £12. Doesnt make any sense.

I love ES, but sometimes i think they need to figure out their first list price cos clearly something isnt working. Is it any wonder most of their exclusives dont sell out.

anyone guess why zavvi have ended up with the anchorman 2 that was an es exclusive release weird and kind of funny really it's like a big line of steelbooks transfers a bit like football zavvi sell there steelbooks to amazon now es are selling to zavvi lol

'Timed' exclusives are not uncommon. Studios reserve the right to sell stock to other retailers. It's happened several times before-i.e Media Markt 'exclusives' turn up on Amazon.de

That's good news
I will order from Zavvi when it goes live

Its not unusual to see a previous retailer exclusive become available at a later date with another retailer or even be on general release

There are different types of exclusives
You can have a exclusive to a retailer for a period of time this can be anything from 3 months to 6 months to a year
After this period of time has elapsed it then can become available on general sale or as an exclusive with another retailer

Most retailer exclusive are only available from that retailer or third party but a few are sometimes limited period exclusive with a date that the exclusive deal ends
This means unsold stock can then be offered on general release to all retailers or to another retailer to sell the unsold stock as they might have a larger customer base to sell to which in Zavvi case applies as they ship worldwide and already have lots of repeat customers

Its not usually told to customers if an exclusive is a normal exclusive or limited period of time as an exclusive but I have seen on rare occasions this information is provided upfront

In most cases if all stock is sold during limited period exclusive you don't see it become available on general sale meaning its sold out
So if an retailer had an exclusive for a period of time and that time period has elapsed and stock is still available the film distributor can then make this stock that's still available to other retailers as the original exclusive with the retailer has ended and no longer applies

Its also common for un sold stock to be purchased by an overstock company who then offers this stock to shops to sell and is usually purchased at bargain dealer price
I dealt with overstock products a lot in the past when I was working in the business and had very good profit margins

I find it very strange that they have allowed zavvi to have this now. I hope ES is not stopping exclusives as we will only be stuck with zavvi, I want other companies to get more exclusives not hand away the ones they've got :/

ES handled this release poorly with their pricing. £25.99 is basically saying to people, 'we don't want you to buy it, we'd rather keep them all in our warehouse'.

Zavvi have priced many items at£23.99 and people have still bought them.
