the 3D discussion is irrelvant since the HMV steelbook is 2D only

just trying to curb some confusion here in case someone thinks the HMV will include the 3D version

The 3d isn't great on those movies because they were post production conversions.

True 3D, such as that seen in Avatar and Underworld: Awakening looks fabulous and really helps immerse you in the world of the movie.

Sadly there are lots of companies chipping in with cheap conversions, which spoils the rep of 3D a bit. Done properly, it looks terrific.

You can check what's real and what's faked here:

I must say I thought Avatar's 3D was really poor as well, I saw it in both 2D and 3D on the big screen and I much preferred the 2D version. The 3D one just appeared to take away from the clarity and in the end I was taken out of the film's immersion as I started thinking more about which 3D effects worked and which ones didn't than actually watching the film.

The spine was enough to put me off buying this, if they wanted to remind ppl of this being an ensemble of characters just leave that for the inside art. Ive put my name down for a group buy on the Future Shop release instead.

I've just sold my Blu Ray copy of Avatar 3D. To be perfectly honest, its unbelievable. Easily the best 3D BD i've seen. Better than the big screen for me anyway.

I'm going to keep one copy on order, since I got it at the reduced price, just incase it does a Thor and becomes valuable despite being released everywhere. I think the Spanish, Italian, and German ones will be the ones people will be after though.

Just out of interest, do we know how many of each steelbook per country will be printed?

Is this UK one a print of 4/5k or more to meet the demand?

Wreck said its well over 4,000 for the uk alone.
marty mcfly said Germany, France, Spain, Italy is 8,000
finland and sweden is getting them too
then you have asia and australia

so i would be thinking around 20,000 or moreEEK!
and then you have the viva metal box from us/canada and various asian countries
and not to forget blu ray metal tin from brazil

Cancelled this because I dont like the Spine and the overall finish,

Pre-Ordered the 3D Amaray from Asda Direct (I think it has a lenticular slip) a few months ago for £9, and Hopefully getting the empty Viva Metal Box from Best Buy.

^ Seems like this Steelbook won't be going rare any time soon. :)

I wouldn't be so sure. This film was/is hugely popular and therefore you imagine sales on DVD and Blu-ray will be high, naturally this should increase sales of the Steelbook version too.

I originally pre ordered this version but changed to the German version for the documentary. Now I've joined the GB for the best buy case, I'm thinking of just getting the amaray from sainsbury's for the documentary, seeing as 3D doesn't interest me. It doesn't seem right to just get the HMV release with just one disc when everywhere else is getting at least 2.

Sainbury's amaray + BB Case = bluray, documentary and viva metal case :scat:

Is it possible to cancel and leave only 1 copy? I had a quick look in my HMV account but not sure if the cancel button (not cancel entire order) will send you to a screen so you can say how many or whether it cancels that item regardless of quantity. I ordered a few with the 20% but only want 1 now as I'm getting the Italian and FS MetalBox too.

Click on the order number, and that will take you into a list of all the items in the order, and should then give you the option to cancel items individually without cancelling the order itself.

edit: Just realised what you meant. I'm not sure, but there's a confirmation to click after the first screen so it shouldn't hurt to try.
