This isn’t gonna sell like hotcakes. It’s Kubrick, but it’s not one of better movies. This one has been at £19.99 for about a week on Amazon. I'm more concerned that Amazon will be over selling these two releases now. What follows..?

Still worth a tickle each at 19.99 whilst quietly keeping another order elsewhere.![]()

Wow. I bought this on the £20 amazon punt, but that's an absolute beauty. Dual em/debossing on the front, and rear debossing. Plus, spot gloss and actual white matte! Jesus![]()

Unfortunately, the rear art doent match the recent kubrick 4K Steelbooks.I'm good with that. Matches the other recent kubrick 4k steels.
Dude. Are you ever happy?Unfortunately, the rear art doent match the recent kubrick 4K Steelbooks.
You still can! It's gone up but is still only £23 at Amazon.LFG!!! Looks amazing, can't believe we're getting it for £20, wish I ordered 2. Would love it if WB would put this effort into all their steelbooks haha
Generally speaking, why should I be happy with the rubbish that gets released? Compare some embossed Blu-ray Disc Steelbooks such as Unforgiven with the 4K Steelbooks.Dude. Are you ever happy?
Come on now. This is beautiful. Surely you agree.
Why doesn't the rear match the other Steelbooks in the series? Am I missing something.
Yes it Debossed and the other two aren't in the same design. Is there any other reason?

Yes, the debossing and spot gloss on the front artwork are fantastic here. Why didn't the other Kubrick Steelbooks use the same combination of debossing and spot gloss?
This would have worked very well with A Clockwork Orange, even for the rear.

Do you remember the black Blu-ray Disc Kubrick Collection with the fantastic embossing?
I think the issue here, specifically rather than generally, is in one of the releases that seems to have been a pleasant surprise you've found something negative about it.Generally speaking, why should I be happy with the rubbish that gets released? The artwork was that of the 2007 Special Edition DVDs, with symbols for each film (door, helmet, eye, etc.). The door at Shining with Redrum is not spectacular artwork, but it works very well in the black Kubrick collection.Yes. I have the black versions of Full Metal Jacket, The Shining & Clockwork Orange - missed out on a Lolita a while back.
They're also a mixed bag mate. The Shining one is particularly ordinary - it's the door with redrum. The full reverse images are mainly washed out due to the early printing of these Steelbooks.
They're a mixed bag as I said. The embossing is great but for the most part, they're nothing to scream about.
Unforgiven 4k uses the same image as the bossed OG blu ray, except it's a fuller uncropped image and I think, has a deeper and better colour reproduction than the blu ray version. Which I also owned. I sold it on because it was marginal in quality between them both.
The bossed Poltergeist blu ray steel still remains better than the original 4k version in the swimming pool, but the art on the new Film Vault version is great but has a poor finish. It's a trade off.
Yes, there's no bossing but it's a trade off as far as I'm concerned. Some elements are worse, some elements are better. Trade off.
Do we get less these days for more expensive? Yes, totally. Doesn't make me happy, on that I agree with you and for the most part I absolutely love a good moan as well as the next person, but to be consistently negative on almost everything that comes out, does make me wonder why you collect these "inferior" Steelbooks in the first place then?
No shade. Simple question. If you hate them so much, why buy them?
No, the issue clearly lies in Warner not putting any thought into their releases. But nowadays it's so typical to always blame the critics.I think the issue here, specifically rather than generally, is in one of the releases that seems to have been a pleasant surprise you've found something negative about it.
I get you were responding directly to the point about it matching other Kubrick releases and weren't technically wrong but I'm of the mindset we should take any wins where we can find them even if they're not perfect, especially when they're reasonably priced.
Sure I like consistency too, I once worked in a design agency so bad typesetting etc sticks out like a sore thumb to me at times but as a collector I want releases to be special, I'd like to see more variety and not a straightjacket on design. No, the issue clearly lies in Warner not putting any thought into their releases. Warner and other publishers hire agencies in L.A. for this, so you'd expect the releases to have a concept.
I disagree. Yes, the debossing and spot gloss are beautiful, but the rear is a disaster. What Warner has done here is simply a refusal to do their job. It wouldn't have been difficult to put a nice film still on the rear like they did with A Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket. I have already criticized the poor manufacturing quality of the other Steelbooks and therefore did not buy them. A Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket deserved better.
Look how perfectly the black Steelbooks fit together.
