This one has been at £19.99 for about a week on Amazon. I'm more concerned that Amazon will be over selling these two releases now. What follows..?

Still worth a tickle each at 19.99 whilst quietly keeping another order elsewhere.
This isn’t gonna sell like hotcakes. It’s Kubrick, but it’s not one of better movies.

It is arguably his BEST movie.

I don’t know about that. I mean it’s overall score on RT the lowest of the movies up through Full Metal Jacket (though The Shining is weaker among top critics.

Obviously the reviews are good (I’m not sure he ever made a movie that was poorly received), but it’s probably in the bottom 2 (with Eyes Wide shut getting the “worst” review). I still don’t think this will sell like hotcakes. I’ve literally never seen it broadcast on TV nor can I recall it streaming anywhere.

Regardless, if you like it, go for it, but I’m not gonna watch it. That aside, Hamilton not withstanding, I think this was the last time I saw a movie with an intermission in theaters. Might have been the only one.

Yeah, that's stunning... but why the frick did they not do this with FMJ and ACO like @TheWildEye said? Warner Bros are really starting to peeve me off lately with their inconsistent finishes. Tempted to just get rid of the other steels now as they obviously don't match and look turd in comparison.

LFG!!! Looks amazing, can't believe we're getting it for £20, wish I ordered 2. Would love it if WB would put this effort into all their steelbooks haha

Dude. Are you ever happy?
Come on now. This is beautiful. Surely you agree.
Why doesn't the rear match the other Steelbooks in the series? Am I missing something.
Yes it Debossed and the other two aren't in the same design. Is there any other reason?
Generally speaking, why should I be happy with the rubbish that gets released? Compare some embossed Blu-ray Disc Steelbooks such as Unforgiven with the 4K Steelbooks.

The Steelbooks from Warner, Universal, Disney and other publishers are mostly disappointing. The artwork is often poorly chosen, the finishes are inferior, and embossing/debossing is rare.

Yes, the debossing and spot gloss on the front artwork are fantastic here. Why didn't the other Kubrick Steelbooks use the same combination of debossing and spot gloss?
This would have worked very well with A Clockwork Orange, even for the rear.

Unfortunately, the rear artwork of Barry Lyndon is a bad joke; they simply copied the rose from the front artwork. Not only does it not work here, it also doesn't match the other Kubrick Steelbooks.
Why wasn't a movie scene used for the rear, as with the other Kubrick Steelbooks?

And as a collector, you would expect all Kubrick Steelbooks to match on the shelf. Even the Warner logo on the spine doesn't match. If Warner were smart, they would reissue the white Kubrick Steelbooks with improvements such as debossing and spot gloss.

Do you remember the black Blu-ray Disc Kubrick Collection with the fantastic embossing?

Yes. I have the black versions of Full Metal Jacket, The Shining & Clockwork Orange - missed out on a Lolita a while back.
They're also a mixed bag mate. The Shining one is particularly ordinary - it's the door with redrum. The full reverse images are mainly washed out due to the early printing of these Steelbooks.
They're a mixed bag as I said. The embossing is great but for the most part, they're nothing to scream about.
Unforgiven 4k uses the same image as the bossed OG blu ray, except it's a fuller uncropped image and I think, has a deeper and better colour reproduction than the blu ray version. Which I also owned. I sold it on because it was marginal in quality between them both.

The bossed Poltergeist blu ray steel still remains better than the original 4k version in the swimming pool, but the art on the new Film Vault version is great but has a poor finish. It's a trade off.

Yes, there's no bossing but it's a trade off as far as I'm concerned. Some elements are worse, some elements are better. Trade off.

Do we get less these days for more expensive? Yes, totally. Doesn't make me happy, on that I agree with you and for the most part I absolutely love a good moan as well as the next person, but to be consistently negative on almost everything that comes out, does make me wonder why you collect these "inferior" Steelbooks in the first place then?
I just don't buy the ones I don't like. Leave it at that and move swiftly on.
No shade. Simple question. If you hate them so much, why buy them?

I think the issue here, specifically rather than generally, is in one of the releases that seems to have been a pleasant surprise you've found something negative about it.

I get you were responding directly to the point about it matching other Kubrick releases and weren't technically wrong but I'm of the mindset we should take any wins where we can find them even if they're not perfect, especially when they're reasonably priced.

The artwork was that of the 2007 Special Edition DVDs, with symbols for each film (door, helmet, eye, etc.). The door at Shining with Redrum is not spectacular artwork, but it works very well in the black Kubrick collection.
In 2016, the black Kubrick Collection was reissued in Italy and France with additional titles such as Barry Lyndon. Unfortunately, the finish was inferior; unlike the UK Steelbooks, the Italian/French release had a cheap, streaky finish.

What do you mean by “mainly washed out due to the early printing of these Steelbooks”? Can you explain that in more detail? Warner simply didn't use good sources here; the rear of Shining is blurry. But that has nothing to do with the printing or the age of the movie/used pictures. Do you remember the rear of Daredevil, completely pixelated? And the rear was a poster artwork in the best quality.

Do you have a photo of Unforgiven bossed OG blu ray for comparison?
The 4K Steelbook is just poorly designed and poorly made. Who would have the idea to decapitate a horse? Warner should have either reprinted the Blu-ray Disc Steelbook as a 4K version or used the poster artwork and enhanced it with debossing.

What finish is used on The Film Vault Collection Steelbook from Poltergeist? I find the series very disappointing—great artwork, but nothing special. With many artworks, such as Goodfellas, there would have been enough space for a printed and debossed title.

Trade-offs don't really get you anywhere, and as a collector, I don't see why I should make trade-offs. Most of the time, the publishers made bad decisions that follow no logic. That's exactly why I don't buy these inferior Steelbooks. It annoys me because I would love to have high-quality Steelbooks with great artwork for some movies, and it would be so easy, but the publishers are too stupid and arrogant to get it right. Buying these releases would be wrong, because it would send the publishers the message that they've done everything right.

No, the issue clearly lies in Warner not putting any thought into their releases. But nowadays it's so typical to always blame the critics.
Warner and other publishers hire agencies in L.A. for this, so you'd expect the releases to have a concept.

I disagree. Yes, the debossing and spot gloss are beautiful, but the rear is a disaster. What Warner has done here is simply a refusal to do their job. It wouldn't have been difficult to put a nice film still on the rear like they did with A Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket. I have already criticized the poor manufacturing quality of the other Steelbooks and therefore did not buy them. A Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket deserved better.

Look how perfectly the black Steelbooks fit together.

Sure I like consistency too, I once worked in a design agency so bad typesetting etc sticks out like a sore thumb to me at times but as a collector I want releases to be special, I'd like to see more variety and not a straightjacket on design.

While we all have our own preferences, do you truly believe those black steels have better artwork than the newer versions just because they're more consistently designed with each other?

Got my copy from Amazon, as someone else pointed out it's not a bright white, more a very light grey.
