happy days.
so the behemoth has turned up and it really is huge (tape measure shots below!). was it damaged, what's it like, is it worth it?

first things first. when this turned up, there was a big dent in it.
feared the worst, but the motherbox itself didn't suffer. that said, there are a number of little blemishes on it. not enough to make me request a return, and to be honest the motherbox itself is quite light and so will have got bashed around a lot in transit. but they probably could have put more padding around the outside - wat they have is really only a centimetre - but then i suppose that would have made it an even larger box for the box.
anyway,
packaging:
for those wondering,
'how big is this anyway?' it's around 23cm x 54cm x 13cm. so, BIG
:
on the front, i love the
different treatment they have given each logo of the trilogy: holofoil for the
Batman Begins logo, spot varnish for
The Dark Knight logo, and a textured surface for
The Dark Knight Rises logo
:
the
sides of this beast are also nicely treated with the same sort of
subtle holofoiling they used on the trilogy releases themselves, nicely done:
i quite like the
rear image. the art is detailed and worth a repeated look, and they have even spot varnished the
credits for the films, which is a nice touch as it's so unnecessary:
when you come to, you know, actually open it, it's a bit disappointing that the flap only goes up to 90 degress and doesn't fold back further, but i guess that would have required additional engineering to the hinge, and this is just strong card. but the (updated)
inside art is a strong image and the colours pop. i would have preferred the three logos left to right transition with the backgrounds of bats, flame and falling debris, but i assume they thought it was too similar to the front:
considering how heavy the One Click's are, the
compartments are surpisingly flexible (i.e. thin). and of course the box could have been a lot smaller if they had stored the OC's spine up rather than cover up, but it would have lost a lot of the wow factor.

because this, for me, is the wow factor:

so, a giant box that barely fits in my new shelving and hides the OC lenti artwork from view (says my Significant Other) or the final part of the sort of large scale project few premium retailers plan these days? your call. what do i think of the motherbox?
