Problem is Ash that US customs or the carrier upon inspection to the US sees more than 1 copy and they state those extra copies are for resale. ;)

Actual duty will not run you that much, if you get charged, it'll likely be more to pay for the customs clearing charge from the carrier.

We don't pay anything near what folks in Germany or UK pay. :D

For sure we don't pay the kind of duty our friends in Europe do. And like you said, when the US customs officer sees multiple copies of the same thing, they will automatically assume resale. However in my experience buying from Asia, most email orders seem to adhere to the $800 personal exemption pretty close. I had purchased multiple copies of the same item (Angry Birds stuffed toys anyone?) for my daughters and their friends long before they were available here. I think the fact that these items were sent to a residence could be the other exemption factor. Just watch, I have probably jinxed my good favor with the US CBP and they are going to storm my house soon EEK!

Although we in the US don't get many steelbook releases, we are privileged to buy these items overseas with minimal taxation :D

I believe there is an $800 personal exemption (not sure if per import or per 30 days) and then it is 3% of the next $1000 unless the item is protected under the various agreements and trade programs. Someone with more extensive knowledge of US tax and business laws should chime in :D
800 dollars on purchases via the Internet? Just wow.

Here in The Netherlands everything above 28 dollars is the limit. :(

Customs are also assessed based on the category of item (Harmonized Tariff Schedule), so it may not be the same for all items...FYI.

No prob-crazy how many categorizations there are, too. But, hopefully no one runs into big dramas with customs for Steelies.

What kind of a hand do you need? Can't you order from Japan or do you need someone to walk you through ordering on the website?
What I mean is that based on what someone wrote here earlier, it would be cheaper for customs if someone from Japan sent them out as a gift. As for myself, Mongo pretty well good at in navigation the intarwebs, ty.

Anyone want to fly to Japan with me?

I bet the tech district in Tokyo will be loaded up with these babies on release day. It might not be a bad idea to fly there, pick up a few "deals," come back, wait a week for the uptick and recover the cost of your flight, maybe twice over! :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

See my post - bad day. My contacts at Amazon US are just as surprised. They are trying to find out what is going on...

---------- Post added at 07:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:34 PM ----------

You can't be serious ash.... EEK!

I am very serious. This is not unexpected due to the continuing surge in demand for these steels especially from that huge market to the west of Japan. I suspect, maybe Wreck can find out more, that they are increasing their production print run. Remember, running out of stock on release day is not looked upon very well in the Far East and Amazon does not want to be seen in that light.

I just sent an email to amazon.jp and I'm waiting for their response. Well I can deal with the delay but as long as I get my copies of what I ordered. When I received the email I felt like I was punched in the gut.:( but let's wait and see what happens:movie:
