The way I see it is you always have it on your shelf the same way when lined up whether it's batman or superman on the front with the correct facing spine title but the gimmick is when looking at it you just flip it upside down to view the back and it all looks like it opens the same way as a normal steel due to the back being a mirror of the front
Which is pointless tbh

I just hope this isn't standard Warner streaky matte and either

• full gloss with debossed symbols

Or

•spot gloss on bat/superman and a decent matte for the rest with debossed spot gloss symbols also

Maybe that can save this

I dont think Warner often do gloss or debossing/embossing. The only animated steel i have from DC/warner with debossing is The dark knight returns and it was full matte finnish.

Now you're clutching at straws. Nothing can save this monstrosity..

They pretty much never do gloss on WWA
Only ones that Spring to mind at the moment are the beetlejuice and V for vendetta limited print runs and the batman films all had a varnish (originals, Nolan singles)
And yeah like you say can't think of any with emboss/deboss except the one you mention (the one I'm missing :( ) and again v for vendetta and beetlejuice

It's why I'm worried that it will be a terrible matte and the gloss and deboss were a wish to save this release

There's loads of glossy and (or) embossed Warners.....
The Goonies, Empire Of The Sun, Mars Attacks, Corpse Bride, Dark Shadows, The Prestige etc...

Ahh yes and all have embossing too except dark shadows

Just couldn't think at the time lol

Also most of them were limited editions only released in one or 2 places or WEA l, most their WWA big releases have been matte which I hope they move away from with this

I still need to get empire of the sun

Correct . . . and on the one hand/at first sight an interesting idea having both sides with main artwork with the only difference being the spine title starts from top to bottom (usual way) with Batman on the front and from bottom to top with Superman ("wrong way") on the front - unconfirmed at time of writing just which is the front face though feel it should be Batman as first in the title . . . something not unique as we all know and I recently posted several examples on "The Jungle Book" thread (post #61) of steelbook spine titles in the "French style" or "the wrong way around".
On the other hand It's all a bit daft unless they do it properly and leave off the studio logo and the Blu-ray logo too (and what about that 3D logo while you're about it?) to allow a 'clean' spine as on those U.K. steelbooks I recently posted images of on the "Bronson" thread (post #165).

Great artwork on both sides :thumbs: and interested to see what finish they decide on . . . .

I know I'm correct

Or a magnetic spine strip like the new Star Wars force awakens Steelbook nova media is doing. That would solve that issue

Why did you post a incorrect facing spines (French style) list in the jungle book thread?

. . . by way of a response to @zesty on that thread . . .

Warner have a good mix of full gloss finish/Matte Finish/Varnish sheen finish releases

Some of the matte finish Steelbooks with nice embossing are great looking Steelbooks

Warner also had 2 very nice full gloss Steelbooks with embossing
The Town and Argo

There though has been some poor matte finish releases with low quality washed out image especially on the back

Full Gloss is nice most of the time but I have some matte finish Steelbooks with spot gloss embossing that are very nice and better than some full gloss Steelbooks

There's a few more thanks to @BluSteel2012 pointing out like the prestige, the goonies etc but yeh forgot about town and Argo

I think my favourite finish is spot gloss but when done right with a thick matte and decent glossing

Or like the drive Hmv steel where it's spot glossed but the matte has a smooth silky matte finsh also like the edge of tomorrow steelbook

There have been a few exceptions in regards to WB and glossy steels, but i dont know of any recent UK 3D steelbook releases that feature embossing/debossing or full gloss.

I actually quite like the idea behind this and as for the spine I have no problem (at least it has the title!) as it will only ever be sitting on a shelf one way and you cannot see the front /back when it is ;)

While I do like the idea of the magnetic spine like Nova's TFA I still worry about how that will look, for as anyone who has ever took a spine off will know that the plastic insert has a moulded shape for it to fit in while a lenticular magnet and it's inherit depth is going to look pretty wired protruding from the SB IMO :D

Have no experience of magnetic spines or retrofit DIY spines but all would be unsatisfactory to me unless they were part of the manufacturing process and anyway a "wrong way around" spine doesn't bother me in the slightest with lots of digibooks and a few steelbooks on my shelves like that.
Here, the ONLY slight problem for me would be the upside-down "WB" and "Blu-ray" logo - if the real thing looks like the mock-up in post #247 - and the "3D" logo, if in that position, seems to fit OK.

I know what your saying but realistically it will only ever sit on the shelf the 'right' way it's only when you hold it that it would become an issue, and not a major one ;)
