First, Warner Home Video has now officially set their Ben-Hur: 50th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition Blu-ray and DVD box sets for release on 9/27 (SRP $64.99 and $49.92). There's also a 2-disc special edition DVD version for just $20.97 that contains just the film with commentary. The UCE box sets will include the film split over two discs, newly-remastered frame by frame from the original 65mm elements in stunning 8K resolution - the highest resolution restoration ever done by the studio - with audio commentary by film historian T. Gene Hatcher, scene specific comments from Charlton Heston and a music-only track featuring Miklos Rozsa's score.

Obviously, the film is in HD on the Blu-ray version. Extras on the additional discs in the set include the all-new Charlton Heston: A Personal Journey documentary (in HD on the Blu-ray), along with the 1925 silent version of Ben-Hur from the Thames Television restoration with stereophonic orchestral score by composer Carl Davis (143 min), the 2005 documentary Ben-Hur: The Epic That Changed Cinema (58 min), the 1994 documentary Ben-Hur: The Making of an Epic (58 min), the Ben-Hur: A Journey Through Pictures feature, screen tests, a vintage newsreels gallery, highlights from the 1960 Academy Awards and a trailer gallery.

The set will also include an exacting reproduction of Heston's own personal diary kept during the filming, as well as an exclusive hardbound photo book.

For me, the BestBuy box itself is too thick (it look some how double thickness than the normal UCE set) for storing a single small statue figure. I am happy I did not pick-up that one. Some more the limited number sticker is not in the main box.

Its basically the limited edition boxset packaged inside a more limited edition boxset plus a more limited edition figure that came with it.

The fun part of that set is - the mystery of what numbered set you have inside the box.

Thickness or not, its more limited

I know it just slot the origin UCE set inside, like what they did with LOTR EE, but this is kind of too big, it look awful when stand together with my others UCE set & absolutely waste of space.

It just my own opinion, I dislike it. :) Lucky I didn't take, the extra USD $20 is not worth for me.

Beside this the BestBuy Exclusive is just a sticker outside the plastic sleeve, once pill off they is not much like a Exclusive for me.

For those interesting how it looks like, here the screenshot I found from net:

Left origin UCE set, right BestBuy Exclusive with figurine set, the thickness is madness!

Barnes and Noble had a flash sale this past Tuesday with a 30% coupon off 1 item.. I know there prices are high but was able to get if for $35.xx .. Not bad since I haven't seen it lower.. I know BF is coming up but couldn't resist.. I hear the review on a another site is amazing..

Sanborns has a 50% off in stores only, some folks at the supervaca forum got it for $254.50 mxp (about $19 USD)

Thats an awesome deal, I'd tell you to get me one ... but then after shipping it would probably be about retail :p

Barnes and Noble screwed me.. Last week they had a flash sale with a 30% off anything coupon.. So I odered this for the wife for xmas, came out to $35.xx , plus Free Shipping however when I go it over the weekend it was the STANDARD dvd gift set and not blu ray.. After a hassle with them I just shipped it back to them for a refund (they paid postage).. Ugh!

Wow. VERY fast shipping by Amazon.ca with DHL. Ordered 2 days ago and it is in Norway already. The DHL driver called and he can come to my work as well since I wasnt home. =)

Well packed? I've never been very impressed with packaging from amazon.ca. Too much damaged stuff from them.

Packed in a not too big cardborad box, but as it is very heavy could move inside asthere was no extra bubble wrap or paper!
But not damaged at all, you just see two corners are not perfect anymore but that could have happened with storing them before...

So this time quite satisfied with amaton.ca

Arrived in mint condition. One cardboard box that fitted perfectly around the Blu-ray box and one cardboard box outside that. No bubble wrap but seems it wasnt necessary.

Satisfied too.

Is it worth the money even If I don't have seen the movie? I'm a beginner to collect this kind of releases :)

Good question. For a collector it's a very good deal. If you just want to see the movie there are better and cheaper alternatives.

It's a big box set if you look at the links =)
