From the site:

We'll help you keep your technology fresh by buying back your TV, mobile phone, laptop, netbook and/or tablet anytime within 2 years of the effective date (4 years for TVs), giving you a Best Buy gift card with a set value to use toward another purchase.

  1. Purchase the Buy Back program along with your new product.
  2. Bring the product back in good, working condition with accessories and parts when you're ready for something new.
  3. Receive a Best Buy gift card for the value you see below toward a new product of your choice.

Televisions $5,000.00 and up are ineligible.

and it looks like phones are only if you bought at full retail.

The percentage break down sucks.

If you buy a $3,000 tv, then 2 years later they will only give you $300 .... you could sell it for more than that ... and lord forbid if its not what you originally paid ... then it would be even less money.

Awesome Idea ... Epic Fail Carried Out ...

If there are fools who actually use this, we should open up a business model called "EXTRA Future Proof Plan" lol ... give them 5% more :p ... You know Best Buy turns around and sells this out dated stuff in 3rd world countries for a boat load. I seen where Gamestop operates in those countries with PS2's and games of last generation and just rakes in the dough.

Thing is now, most technology isnt too outdated now unless its like 720p , where 720p kicks total ass in some of those countries.

Yeah and there are also several large refurb companies who will refurb the items, and it gets sold right back to us in the US, as a Factory refurb. The companies buy the loads from the retailers, and either sell it as Surplus or "Salvage", in skids, that then make their way onto Ebay and other market places. The companies likely had contracts with Best Buy in place to take their items and recycle them through. BB pays the end consumer % percent, and makes a few % when they sell it to Refurb center, and so on.
