That sure was an interesting game!
The playoff games against Ukraine last November really did change everything, with that 2-0 loss in Kiev that could only be redeemed by a big win at home 5 days later otherwise we wouldn't go to the World Cup, and we did it (3-0), and everyone went crazy because of that incredible scenario, and ever since then the team has been on a roll, both the players amongst themselves and with the public.
These have been two great wins (8 goals scored) against Honduras and Switzerland, and especially the latter, last night. No one could expect to score 5 goals against Switzerland, usually they're a decent team (only one loss over the past two years). We even had the luxury of missing a penalty kick

.
BTW, the referee is a bit of a buzzkill for ending the game right in the middle of a play (you either stop the game before or you let the play run its course!) when Sissoko was passing the ball to Benzema, who went on to score yet another great goal, well now it doesn't count

, we've "only" scored 5 goals

.
Now that's 2 goals Benzema isn't credited for (on Sunday the Hondurian goalkeeper helped, but Benzema really did 90% of the work), if it were up to me (or football lovers in general) he would've been credited for 5 goals over the two games, not 3 - which is great in itself, and it's not like it would've changed either game

.
We really have a great team this year, and with a great coach like Deschamps, who knows how far they'll go in the competition (if everything goes right, there could be a quarter final against Germany, that'd be a tough one to crack, but we're not there yet, Ecuador won its game so we're not officially in the round of 16 just yet, though with 6 points and +6 after 2 games it's looking promising).
The
first goal of the night was the 100th goal of France in World Cups btw, it's the fifth team to achieve this, and third in terms on how many games were needed to reach the threshold : 56 games, more than Brazil (36) or Germany (41) but less than the other two in the 100 club, Argentina (57) and Italy (63).
Looking forward to Germany-Ghana / USA-Portugal now! This World Cup is definitely much better than the previous one : so many goals, so many surprises, so many stakes, it's a real treat
