Toddly-just curious, is this based on your own viewing experience?

A combination of my viewing experience and researching all the other online reviews! :)

How is the Pianist A/V? One of my all time favorite movies. Shame US hasn't released it yet.

Besides the Canadian Region A blu, there's also the Hong Kong Region A blu which I have. This Hong Kong blu-ray is of decent quality. The video ranges from excellent to very good through out the film. The audio is more solid though. Even though there are English subtitles for this film, you have to manually turn them on if you want to see the few German lines of dialogue translated. Or you can just watch the whole film with English subtitles and not worry about dealing with that.

I havent found any Canadian to HK bluray comparisons online yet, but I bet they are similar. The main thing to remember is that both versions are just a slight video upgrade and the audio is a big upgrade.

Hope that helps! It's possible that USA wont ever release this title due to the director's issues with the US govt!

For the record, Life is Beautiful US and Canadian versions are the same. I've seen other people compare screenshots with other users, but testing both discs out on the same setup, they're identical. They even have the same disc size, plus the US version has an Alliance logo before you start the movie. I got rid of them both for the Italian version (which has its own problems, but no DNR).

City of God US is also the same as Canadian. I noticed with both of these movies, the menus are the same on the US version (except they're in English only). Lionsgate are just using the Alliance transfers. However with Amelie, the transfers are different (menus are also different).
