I was mostly joking, but I wouldn't be surprised if Cruise's various promotional contracts require him to be dominantly featured on certain materials involving the film--particularly on film covers (e.g. his giant mug on the Jack Reacher steel ). He/his agent/his lawyers probably wouldn't be too keen on him playing second fiddle to Blunt if Manta leaned heavily on her in their mockups (despite her featuring prominently in most of the best promotional artwork for the film).

If that is the case, it's a real shame, as I'd kill for a lenti of the image in the op. :OMG:
I wouldn't worry particularly about that. Cruise has, time and again, proven himself to be a team player. But of course this stuff is all speculation anyway. I hope whoever gives the thumbs up or down is looking for the best art possible.

Yes, I think I read many years ago that Cruise is one of those that needs his face on merch per contract.

Okay, this thread is missing something...

Tom Cruise the actor is a brand in itself. Thus he has a publicist who and has had many for that matter .. for many years it was his sister. Now it's not and they make sure his face is front and center to keep that brand engine revving.

But i could see the lentis being diff ... expect promo pieces and/or 6 month lead time for new works, or shall we say "risky business"
It's kind of funny when people review something like EOT or Tropic Thunder and comment on Cruise being funny - forgetting that his breakout movie as an actor was A COMEDY.

a little surprising since Nolan hates digital and prefers film. But I think he is a smart enough dude that might as well oversee it yourself so you had a hand in it as opposed to it just getting ran through a scanner. ;p

Will be good when this finally get's going. In the meantime, I want a Dark Knight trilogy premium release please!

Good lord I have been so patient waiting for a retailer to work up a super premium release of The Dark Knight trilogy.

Full scale double lenti ultimate edition please. And NO NEED to release 3 versions of each with 3 separate boxsets. Just do 1 preimum version of each... make a super awesome boxset of the trilogy (because exactly ZERO collectors would want to buy just one of the movies.. everyone would want the trilogy).

Ok.. sorry for the mini thread hijack.

I am also excited for the Manta Lab Edge of Tomorrow.

As you were.

35mm film is 6K.
70mm is 13K
Imax Film is 18K
Mastering in 4k has nothing to do with a preference of shooting material.
It means that mastering in the digital post process can come closest to the look of the film.
Remember: Digitally shot films are LOWER resolution than film.

yeah im just still shook on the exchange he had with Michael Mann's (if i recall) cinematographer? ... its on the HEAT reunion bonus features of that definitive edition. Nolan moderates and they get in a little poking debate shortly and Mann's guy swears digital provides better viewing, colors etc. and im shook as im still not figuring if he was implying the digital is better for resolution etc. etc. and of course Nolan ain't having it. But anyhow I get ya as that's just mastering off the reference material to best they can on the 4k format medium to put on disc etc.

I'll have to take a look at that interview.
I remember an interview with a highly regarded cinematogapher who was trying to muster a movvement to get Television makers to stop making their TVs with the digital "Motion Smoothing" setting as a default - as it ruins the work of cinematographers (it adds frames that don't exist). She told a story that kind illuminates how daft people can be about technology - EVEN the "experts". She tells the story visiting a fellow cinematographer who was an Oscar winner for his work. She noticed that his TV had the motion smoothing on - and was shocked. He said he was not a fan of the new TVs. He had no idea about the "motion smoothing" setting and just chalked it up to the "new digital" technology. Wow.

2. [ME#?] Edge of Tomorrow - Cancelled
Again, this is not good news coming from us because we have decided to cancel Edge of Tomorrow. There are many many reasons why we have decided to cancel the release but in few points are as below.

- We wanted to make it more "Emily Blunt" based designs but since it's another Talent's movie, we were not able to do it. Talent parity issue is a big problem (We are also struggling a bit with Fight Club due to this reason) and we cannot use "Emily Blunt" as a main / only in the design.
- Theatrical Materials are not allowed for the release. We have planned the whole design based on the theatrical materials but it was banned from using for us.
- Talent Approval has been very very difficult. Due to the talent's approval, we were unable to change any designs with our products.

Therefore, we have decided to cancel the release. We are really sorry for this and hoped to make an awesome package for this movie but we hope another retailer can take over and make a great edition.
