I do not think it is hard to imagine that some people would find it offensive. HiDefNinja is a community. A supportive one at that. Members of a community like this should aim to help their fellow members, in a similar way as you would help your friends. It is incredibly easy to be negative about something, to criticise it. But when you do it calls people who do like it to question why they do. It also is not very nice, generally. If one of my friends bought a pair of expensive shoes that were not to my taste, that he loved and enjoyed wearing, I would have the right to tell him that they were ugly in my opinion. I would have the right to stand in his face and list the reasons as to why I do not like them. But I would not, as hat would be mean! I also know that just because I do not like them does not mean that others (or his other friends) will not like them. So I would probably say something like "Wow, that's certainly expensive. I'm glad you like them, though".

So should you say something on a forum that is negative. As you say, you have the right to (though I think arguments are automatically lost when you start to mention rights, as they negate feelings and other important issues (morality, others feelings, etc), but that does not mean you should list out the reasons. You could have just said that it was not for you, that you preferred the mock-up and are disappointed that there is not a title on the spine.

I have not taken offence to it - I think you are wrong (your reasons are valid, but they do not add up to a dislikeable steelbook, in my opinion). But I can still imagine situations where people would not like to read all the negativity. As I said at the start, we should be supportive of each other.

Oh, I'm sorry, I thought the idea of this forum is to discuss steelbooks - artwork, price, discs inside, embossing / de-bossing, gloss or matt finish etc. and surely any opinion given on these matters is valid particularly from someone who has bought the thing.
I'm not teaching my grandmother to suck eggs.

The fact that some people are perfectly happy with this steelbook is up to them - IMO it's the worst Disney steelbook by a long shot and that's coming from a big fan of Disney steelbooks and early slipcovers as they are usually quite beautiful.
In fact the ONLY other Disney steelbooks out of all those that have been released that I take exception to is 'Wall.E' and again that's only because of the front artwork.

Thanks for the considered, non abusive reply :)

Is this steel nice - Yes
Is it the best Disney release - No
Is it the worst (or an abortion) - No
Could it have been better - Wholeheartedly YES

But Disney's default seems to be providing WWA, so titles on the actual steels look to be a thing of the past from them. It bothers some people and not others. Either way people can buy it or not - it's up to them :)

Nicely summed up, the 4 points you have stated I can agree with, I wouldn't say the steelbook is horrible but yea they could have done better.
I actually forgot I had this on pre-order so I had no choice to purchase, it was only when I received the "order dispatched" email I remembered!! LOL :D

Thanks for the non abusive response :joy:

Really liking the steelbook myself.
In no way perfect, but a beauty in its own sense.
The lack of logo and spine is a real shame, but not a deal breaker.
Think £25 was a bit high considering its only a 2D film, but this is Disney after all.

Also, the short, Frozen Fever, is included with this release for anyone wondering.

The Kimchi release doesn't have Frozen Fever on though does it ?

So which is better - extra content, or packaging ? (Obviously this is for individuals to decide for themselves)

I think it depends on whether or not you plan to open it. Since I was always going to open the North American release (for the HD digital), I guess any other steelbook I got was for the packaging.

I don't think anyone's saying anything bad about the Zavvi steelbook itself (since all the Cinderella steelbooks are the same), they're not happy with the slip. I personally am glad I cancelled, but I already have both Kimchi releases and Taiwan. I stopped collecting Zavvi steelbooks because of receiving damaged ones and now only go for ones I absolutely love... and hope for the best during shipping!

It's okay to have different opinions about a PRODUCT we're buying; I just wouldn't criticize someone's actual work. I don't see why anyone would take opinions personally. We're all just passionate collectors I guess :D

And my final word on this thread is as a memo to Disney.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I'd just like to let you know that as much as I am a great fan of your products - in particular of 99% of your steelbook released in my territory - I feel that I should express my dissatisfaction and unhappiness at certain aspects of your most recent 'Cinderella 2015' steelbook.
I accept that the price is higher than most for a 1-disc affair and it's certainly good of you to include the short animation 'Frozen Fever' from your 'Short Films Collection' which softens the blow somewhat BUT I am at a loss to understand, among other things, your choice of front artwork which I feel doesn't sit well with a premium product.
It is not a very nice or elegant shoe in my opinion and if you were going to put Cinderella's 'glass slipper' on the front you might at least have approached Swarovski to fashion all of these slippers in crystal and have them expertly attached to the front - now THAT would have looked very nice.
I personally would have much preferred The U.K. Amaray artwork on the front of this steelbook or to put it another way the back artwork of this steelbook on the front and the shoe on the back as at least that way the artwork could have been continued on to the slip and this steelbook would have been a worthy companion to your previous high class and high quality steelbooks.
The other matter that troubles me is the lack of a title on the spine and for whatever reason this was done I'd just like to say that I personally find it unacceptable and downright ludicrous. Moreover, I believe this 'Cinderella 2015' steelbook is available in another territory complete with title on the spine ?
The final matter is the partial slipcover which is most unfortunately placed over part of the main front image. I do not understand for the life of me why this slip could not have covered the dead space ABOVE the shoe !?
It goes without saying that a collector who keeps his/her steelbooks sealed will not be at all happy with the appearance of this item as it takes one back to the bad old days of Disney U.K. steelbooks when plain lower slips which covered part of the front artwork were the norm.
Thankfully you soon realised the error of your ways and later examples look a million times better with artwork continuing from the steelbook on to the slip and there were no more ugly plain slips cutting across the artwork, or so I thought until I saw this new one.
In the meanwhile I am most looking forward to 'The Princess and the Frog' - please don't let me down by screwing it up.
Yours faithfully,
-----=-----------
P.S. Would really love a steelbook for 'Meet the Robinsons'.

Just to answer a couple questions in your letter to Disney, no, there are no titles on the spine in any other region. It's the same steelbook all over the world; only the slip cover is different. They exclude a title when the title is different in different regions. But I think everyone would agree that it's not a nice quality. It makes Disney products seem very cheap.
