I can't believe there isn't a thread in here strictly for Beer. Well now there is.

So I'm going to Phoenix and this store is about 3 miles from the house I am renting. I need some recommendations of beer they sell. I'm looking for Hoppy beers please. I've had a few of them they sell but not allot. HELP ME OUT!

Thanks

BoB

Is that Abyss any good?

havent had it before. probably will open one of the two relatively soon, and then will cellar the other for a year or two.

according to beer advocate tho, its one of the best. its #14 on their top 100 right now and the 3rd best imperial stout.

i think i saw splax posted a picture awhile back of some earlier vintages of the abyss, so he can prolly tell ya what its like.

lol, i didnt see the post actually. sorry :emb:

ive heard mixed things bout the infinium. let us know how this year's is, i think its hit or miss with most people.

the abita turbo dog i havent had, but their vanilla double dog i have and the turbodog is the base beer for the vanilla one. the VDD was very good, so im sure the turbodog is as well.

ive also had the new belgium snow day and 1554. snow day was good, but i liked 2 below better (that was last years winter seasonal they produced). 1554 is a great brew, one of my favs by NB.

can't tell which leine's that is, but im not a huge fan of them, especially since they are now owned by miller-coors. but they make pretty good session beers, and i never complain when i drink one. it kinda looks like nut brown, which i think i had once but dont remember much about it. the only beer they make that i wont drink is the summer shandy. if you see any big eddy by leine's you should buy it, solid russian imperial stout.

all in all thats a huge beer haul! thats the way to do it too, buy by the bottle to find out which ones you like best! im still doing that since there's just too much beer out there that needs to be tried :scat:

Sorry, I missed it too. I've heard the same on the Infinium, so I'll be interested in seeing what you think about it.

Turbo Dog is my Dad's favorite beer. Probably going to try and find a clone recipe and make him a batch for his birthday in July.

Snow Day and 1554 were good for me, but not at the top of my list. With New Belgium in mind, I'll pick one of these over Fat Tire, but I'll go with a Ranger IPA any day of the week.

here is the final beer haul for the christmas season :scat::scat:

i think my family noticed my recent surge in interest in beer :hilarious:

EDIT: i forgot, my family also got me a Central Waters Exodus, giving me two which is perfect because word on the street is that this one will be much better with a year or two of cellaring. but ill get to try one now and then see if thats true!

Good catch on the Abyss. I got one as an extra in a trade! EEK! I'm going to sit on it for a year or two and see what happens. Deschutes should be available in St. Louis within the next couple of weeks. From what I've heard Black Butte XXIII and Abyss are on the initial list.

I really like the Abyss. I have a few bottles and so far 2007 vintage is my favorite. 09 is an infected batch so not many people are a fan of that year.

Good haul though. I have not had many of those. Im curious about Infinium i have heard mix reviews so i havent pulled the trigger to try it yet.

I forgot to tell you all that I did another in person trade the other day. I traded a Surly Darkness and a 3F Dark Lord (both 2010) for an Upland Kiwi and Upland Blackberry. The trade might sound crazy, but the big RIS don't excite me nearly as much as some sours.

latest haul

you know the story, went to the bottle shop not intending to find anything, and then i come home with a box full of beer :scat:

its been awhile tho, so purchased justified ;) heres what i picked up:

the two on the left are to bring to my wife's parent's house this weekend. her sister had a baby, which makes me a first time uncle!!!

also got lucky and showed up the day the store got lagunitas sucks and NG barleywine in. looking forward to trying the barleywine and the lupulin maximus, havent had those yet!

That's a nice haul, especially on the Dupont.

theres a store in milwaukee that cellars a portion of their stock and then randomly will put a couple bottles out after several months to a year (or sometimes more) has past.

found these on the shelves. guy said he put them there 15 minutes before i snatched them off :scat::scat::scat:

Wow! That's a crazy amazing find! How does your guy get this random rare stuff?

He reserves some from the shipments he gets in and stores it in the basement of his shop. It's his way to prevent beer poachers from taking all the rare beers before his regular customers can get some.

I asked him what else he had down there. He said there's some crazy stuff still down there, but he wouldn't tell me, lol.

I know for sure he has a CBS tho, he let that one slip once.

Gotta love the beer poachers. They are the reason that I wasn't able to pick up any of the Deschutes stuff when it came out last week or get a decent spot on a reservation list for the Schalfly BA Quad. It blows my mind that they can either leave work in the middle of the day.

Trades I made last night!!

That's an impressive trade, especially the KH.

just got trades in on back to back days. and let me tell you, I am one happy dude! These were great trades. I work this weekend too, so this is a great start to what normally would be a bummer of a weekend.
