Custom SteelBooks Designs - Post Your Own Concept Art!

just keep telling everyone you want a value of 20USD(like i always do)and the gift value drop absolutely doesnt matter;)

I no that's what I always do. ;)

$20.00 all the way ! :D

The only thing is if your buying 5 or more Steelbooks customs are more than likely to nab you for import duties. In the UK anyway.

Darksider I no that in the US you can import up to a $1000 without any customs charge. Is Canada not the same?

Not sure what the limit is.

So far, I have never been hit with customs. I ordered 2 steels 2 seperate times from Amazon JPN ($90-120 CDN total each) and 1 steel from Amazon CHN (~$60 CDN) shipped by DHL and I didn't mark any value.

I think as your in Canada you should have no problem with customs. Not like in the UK where they slam us for everything.

Every time I order from amazon JP I get slammed with a handling fee & customs charge.

Very soon, gift value is going to drop to £1 and all merchanside will be liable to 20% VAT and 8 quid RM fee.

Instead of setting very low limits, HMRC/UKBA could try enforcing a fixed % charge on all packages (say 1% or max 3% of the goods value).

Btw, HMRC no longer handles customs. It is taken care by UKBA.

Update: Gift limit is now £36.

It's already happened, they seem to have sneaked it in quietly, details here about half way down the page

Gifts sent from outside the EU

If you're sending or receiving a gift from outside the EU:

Excise Duty is payable on any alcohol or tobacco products
Customs Duty is payable if the value of the gift exceeds £135, but will be waived if the amount of duty is £9 or under
import VAT is payable if the value of the gift exceeds £36

To qualify as a gift:

It must have been sent from a private person outside the EU to a private person(s) in the UK.
The Customs Declaration must be completed correctly – see guidance on the customs procedures for goods posted to the UK link below.
It must be for the use of either you or your family.
There must be no commercial or trade element and it must not have been paid for by the recipient either directly or indirectly.
It must be of an occasional nature only - for example for a birthday or anniversary.
If it's perfume or toilet water it must be within the allowances described in the earlier section 'Perfume and toilet water'. If the allowances are exceeded than charges apply on the excess.

I am sick of this country, they screw you every way they can with VAT & that ridiculous handling fee from Parcel Force. It's getting very expensive now to import Steelbooks from outside the EU.
Why can't it be like the US where you can import up to $1000 before duty gets applied.

I am starting to think its time to move back to the US as the government in the UK are he'll bent on taxing us back to the Stone Age.

Rant over!!!!

Thanks Jammy, I was talking about the gift value being dropped to £1. I had never heard of it before and if it happens it will be big trouble.:(

That was just a bit of speculation I guess but it wouldn't surprise me if this government did it in the future to screw a bit more tax out of people
