It's not listed but what about a Tron or Tron legacy steel?
Other countries got them and it's not vaulted i'm sure it'd sell sell if released in a Disney wave and legacy had a 3d disc

I think its 7 years ?

That didnt stop Disney UK rereleasing both Pinocchio and Bambi recently (Without its bonus disc or DVD copy) and with Sleeping Beauty rumored for around Xmas, there's still a small chance... ;)

Might not have been. Depends on personal opinion

However animation in movies as an entity was about dead at the time. The little Mermaid was cutting edge and had a flipping good story that was believable even though it changed the original Has Christian Anderson tale ending.

It's partly this, but Disney had also been digging a hole for themselves for quite some time. From the 1960's onward, Disney's animated features were becoming more experimental in an attempt to adapt to changing times, altering the conventions of their 'fairy tale princess/anthropomorphic animal' films.

While there were still some genuine hits during this period (cf The Jungle Book), other films divided opinion, and do so to this day (The Aristocats, The Sword in the Stone, The Rescuers etc). It reached a head during production of The Fox and the Hound, when lead animator Don Bluth left the company over creative differences, and took most of the senior animators with him, and setting up his own studio.

Disney then found themselves outperformed by a rival studio for the first time, with Bluth's films achieving the success Disney's could not (I'm sure a lot of you still remember An American Tale). It was the release of the Little Mermaid that turned Disney's fortunes around, and marked the beginning of Disney's arguably most successful period of in-house animation. Bluth's company doesn't even exist anymore.

So as far as Disney films go, The Little Mermaid is without a doubt historically significant, regardless of whatever your opinion may be of the film.

/The more you know! :D

WELL SAID Softwing

Another thing is that people did not have the money either to go to the cinema. Animation was at rock bottom with audiences. One thing that the little Mermaid tapped into was an appeal to adults as well as kids.

In a way cartoon's grew up with this outing allowing the animators to take risks and the script writers more scope. More importantly the studio's found that it was a viable market once more.

Disney is releasing it on BluRay for the first time in Oct, so there is a higher possibility of it coming out in steel.

plus it IS good movie and the one that started the Disney renaissance

sleeping beauty wont be out for another year at least.
its always been the one to start the un-vaulting/release schedule cycle and unlike Bambi/Pinocchio, has always been highly regarded and bought upon release (same with BATB, and TLK)

Good to see I'm not alone in wanting a Little Mermaid steel :D (currently second most popular).

Like others have said, I'd probably pick them all up given the chance anyway!

it may be a great movie, but i didnt think it would be this popular, being a more feminine disney movie, i thought those votes would be split.

In what way is it a feminine movie ? EEK!.

Me for one I LOVE Sebastian the crab and his reluctance to go in the cooks stock pot :hilarious:.

Ariel is hardly ohh I may brake a fin OR nail when I am human her responses are genuine when she has NEVER seen things like a comb before. Trying to impress .She stands up for what she believes wining respect.

I find Princess Jasmine in Aladdin to be OTT feminine and the whole AAHH swoon at Aladdin

Why not see it for what it is A CRACKING GOOD MOVIE :movie:.

This is... an interesting comment, to say the least. Little Mermaid is consistently one of the highest performing properties Disney has, across all lines of products - toys, DVD, theme parks, etc. Sure, it's a princess movie, but that doesn't mean it isn't universally loved.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I always though little Mermaid was a rather feminine title (no disrespect). I couldn't believe how high it ranked in the voting. Given all the various titles, it blows my mind that the Little Mermaid is 2nd, while Mickey Mouse is no where to be seen. I thought the vast majority of collectors were male, didn't think mermaid stood a chance. Lets put it this way. If it was a vast majority of females voting for a new steel, and the list was full of romantic comedies......and Rambo! Well, lets just say that I would not expect to see Rambo finish 2nd out of 25 lol. Unless there are some ladies out there that would like to correct me on that.

Like I said, just because it's a princess movie doesn't mean it's "feminine"... it's still a universal classic.

And what kind of Mickey Mouse steelbook do you mean? Unless they were to release a collection of shorts (which I highly highly highly doubt would ever get a steel book), there aren't any full length Mickey Mouse movies that would warrant one.
