Nice. I'd love a Song of The South release but Disney seems too damn ashamed of it to ever put it out again which is the real shame. If they are that afraid of the backlash because of the slavery element they should get Obama, Morgan Freeman or someone to record an intro explaining what was what and why Disney told the story the way they did.

Chances of that ever being released again are pretty much zero. Even here in the UK it's known as one of the most racist films of all time. The film is "Infamous" rather than famous.

Personally I think the film shouldn't be held back because of the many reasons they give. It's a product of it's time, and as you say, an introduction by someone relevant covers that area. Still I don't think you will see a remastered and complete version of this film anytime soon though :D

It is not really that racist though. The worst thing it does is tip toe around slavery and makes it seem not as bad as it actually was. Song Of the South gets a bad rap IMHO and I personally find the depiction of the Native American Indians in Peter Pan to be way more offensive than anything in Song of the South.

as long as Zavvi work through the titles that have never had any kind of steel/metal treatment anywhere else n the world, first, I'll be happy.

the re-releases can wait :)

would be nice if Pocahontas had the DVD movie options too - ie the 'If I Never Knew You; song being an optional extra within the movie (a'la BATB, theatrical or extender version) instead of JUST an extra.
Means I could finally get rid of my DVD copy (its a simply branching option disney!!! *sigh*)

I'd like to see a "best of Mickey" type of release. Maybe 4 discs filled with new HD transfers of many of the Mickey Mouse classics inside a nice classy steelbook.

I think Steelbooks are definitely the way to go if they ever decide to release the Walt Disney Treasures line on bluray. One each for Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, Silly Symphonies, and Rarities (for all the one-offs that don't belong to a series).
