If you have HDN VIPs then you start going down a very slippery slope. Is it a HDN blufans VIP or a HDN vip in general?

If it is a HDN Blufans VIP then you'll get people reserving copies here and on the other site and maybe securing them by other means which equals less copies for the "real" collectors or even the casual collectors who are non VIP.

The system they offer here is fair, its first come first served. If everything went to plan the other night then you would've had alot less people with copies secured then we got with the system mucking up and HDN getting more allocation.

What @Basil is saying is right. But if you have a steelbook release that HDN allocation is so limited that there are only 60 one clicks, 24 doubles and 13 singles (or whatever it was) then the non premium members wouldn't have a look in. Plus there is nothing stopping John Smith signing up, paying his premium fee and still getting in before a long standing premium member. Even with the proposed method, premium members would still miss out, allocation would sell out and non premium members would be empty handed. Someone making 50 posts shouldn't be the bench mark either, you could spend half an hour and bounce through all the different threads on each section and hit that. What you're saying is right but there is no proper way to govern the measuring stick or the allocation and here in lies the problem.

on about an hdn premium membership as a perk getting gb access first thats it.

unless you are saying as a premium member you would prefer not to recieve it?

i would have thought most premium members would have glady recieved it as a perk, therefor greatly increasing premium members also and money for the site to run. which i would have thought would be a good thing overall?

not if you could only buy premium membership after minimum 50 posts they person would have to be busy and put their hand in there pocket which is highly unlikely. also the 50 post mark stops the now and againers i reckon there was about at least 15 of those but i would need more time to study that in more detail. which would have been 15 more copys for regular users anyway said my bit at least its got conversation going.
wouldn't you prefer an improved gb system for the real users of the site including regular ones and not leechers who don't use the site at all?
just food for thought
i have to go out now but will come back to this later

enjoy

Everyone will become a premium member and then the perk will be redundant as the same amount of people rush as before.

I am a premium member but i'm also not selfish. I was here when that clock struck 8pm (UK time) like everyone else. If I didn't make it I would've had to deal and secure my copies elsewhere, most likely eBay. If you boost the premium membership yes it increases the funding for the site but also makes the premium perk redundant because everyone has it. You'd be better off just charging a yearly subscription to the site then have an extra fee on top to be a super premium subscriber...and then you're on that slippery slope again.

All this talk of restructuring the landscape of the site over one release..ONE release. One release that happens to be limited and caused a scene. I personally don't think anything needs to change around here

A new / silent member should just as much right to a group buy without paying any fee. What needs to be stopped is people purchasing from here, direct (if applicable) and then other group buys. Either by having conversations with other means of collecting or by banning those who end up with multiples from future group buys.

I think its a bad idea also to have premium members GB.
It wont solve much problems as those who only buy select titles due to finance wont be able to pay for the site AND then pay for GBs so a lot of people will still use the standard GB to get the items.
Plus its unfair to those members who are not lurkers and who cant afford to pay for membership or dont have X number of titles from a label.
Its a loose loose either way,

We can't stop members joining my GB, then going elsewhere and joining again and again across different GBs. In an ideal world, yeah. That would be down to Blufans to curb as they are provided with everyone's details so could limit it there end, however at the end of the day all Blufans are worried about is getting their $$$ ;).

What I can do however is limit it to 1 x edition only, which we have had to do with Doctor Strange.

I don't necessarily agree with premium member only GBs, but potentially a mini GB with a small quantity from the GB allocation set aside for premium members only which they get first dibs at. A general GB is then opened say an hour later for everyone else to join.

Like I said, no mater what solution we would come up with, you're never going to please everyone

We were all new members here once and we all probably came here when we discovered this magical wonderful thing called a group buy. I was so entry level at collecting for me it was like Play,HMV and Zavvi. Then I started discovering these wonderful Asian editions and some were only available through group buys. Then I ended up here and I'd like to proudly consider myself a ninja. I've contributed to the website through becoming a premium member, joining their groupbuys, buying their exclusive items such as steelbook releases, pins and shirts... and im on here every day (much to the Mrs' dismay) and I contribute to threads daily.

If we were to have a HDN VIP blufans perk then this may be a good idea and like @cooey said for the limited allocated releases

So say we have another blufans limited release coming up and we get 30 double lentis and 50 one clicks (say for guardians 2 - it won't happen but just a example) then we could have a GB for the GB (sounds silly but hear me out)

So however it would be decided on who's a blufans HDN VIP (I would do it as premium members with a certain amount of releases - which shoots myself in the foot because it would most likely be more than I have lol) we could have say 10 guaranteed places. So a GB opens for the VIP members and you have to literally put down your forum name - then the first 10 are guaranteed a copy when the GB does open and the rest of the copies as normal with clicking on the buy now open to premium and standard members

That way it won't always be the same 10/ 15 or however many premium VIP members each time.

Just a suggestion and fairest I can think of

That way it's a perk for the premium members as they will be the blufans VIP but it's only for a small amount each time and then the rest open to everyone when the actual GB is open

The VIP status can keep growing once a member is a Premium member with a certain amount of BF releases but it's still limited to 10 or 15 guaranteed spots on each editon and then the rest for everyone else

its not about you personally, its about hdn looking after paid premium members firstly thats all.
my thought was and only a thought that premium members to get access to say a gb first for a while that way.
regulars who actually get involved here could secure their copies first (say 1hr access before open gb) and then what would be left after would be available to the rest still giving everyone a chance. the main point being it would more than likely increase premium membership here helping this site to run as pointed out by wreck the costs.

for me there a regular premium members i know here that could not get a copy from here,
because of the very occassional member here main use the other site in the main and decide to come over when it suits to me that does not seem fair at all.

out of the gb 13 premium members got one that i can see with 3 hiding their details so there maybe 3 more, out of 59 discounting staff.
also some of the vistors have had membership for 4 years and made 6 posts in that time others 21 in 2 years and some been members have a 0 post count in 3 years to me that says it all the come for a gb and thats it when it suits and for me thats not helping the site at all or fair and some just joined that day!

if it was me i would require a minimum post (say 50) before allowing access to the gbs to promote use of the site that would keep stragglers off. if they when wanted access they would have to get involved which to me seems fair called give and take.

so for me a premium access to gbs first would be a big plus for people that actually make here what is a proper community and not imho people that come to suck life out of it when it suits and thats not trying to have a go at any one invidual if you want to change those views i would suggest coming and getting involved then i will happily welcome anyone.

btw currently there are 7 people who havent even bothered to read the message saying they are good and have secured a double lenti now they may be busy it could be the case but i let you work it out.

i just looking to balance the scales for all regular users of this community and make fairer for all that want to use the boards in an equal way.

all the best

I hear ya, but what makes a 'regular' user? How would it be monitored? By post count? Over what timescale?

1. People have lives and aren't going to be continually active or 'get involved' in things on an internet forum.

2. Some people only have an interest in steelbooks.

3. There are no regulations to sign up and be forced to contribute on HDN as a whole.

4. I agree it appears unfair but it doesn't necessarily mean that it is unfair. The access is there for anybody and was made so way back when which equates to 'first come, first served' and THAT is the most fair method above anything else. These GBs are also advertised in advance whoch gives you more of a heads up to be in the right place at the right time. If you cannot then it's nobody's fault and simply bad luck.

5. I personally join limited Group Buys and don't jump in on every one so I feel I shouldn't be begrudged a marvel exclusive once every couple of months.

I mainly joined HDN for the steelbook group buys and I'm sure there are many many more on here that are the same. On the flip side of that, I also came for the steelbook forum in general. Why? Because my interest in film collecting only lies with steelbooks. Do you know why I joined HDN mainly for the group buys? Because of its reputation. I had heard good things about it and the people that run them and the fact that you are trusting your money with these people through this site. I've been involved in several group buys now on HDN and I cannot fault anybody. @cooey is the man for me when it comes to this because even though my love for steelbooks exists, I tend to branch off towards Blufans exclusives, namely Marvel Blufans exclusives. Who is the guy I can trust to do it for me? ...@cooey!

Now on that note I want to see you getting more actively involved in discussions about Disney Princess movies otherwise you aren't contributing fully.

I understand those of you who don't comment frequently cause you don't speak fluent english or you "have a life".

But there are people who could unquestionably contribute more. Commenting on threads, quoting other members, posting latest pick-ups, liking other's posts, selling unwanted packages on here at a cheaper price before shifting it on eBay, writing helpful paragraphs to new members. This site and the steelbook game in general is more fun when theres a conversation going on and you feel a part of something. Little things help build a sense of community:thumbs:
