Yea the Martian had a lot, can't remember the one that was completely cancelled but I think they are still selling them at reduced cost.

Hamill82 that is not good at all .

I am not OCD so for me I dont know if it would bother me too much .

Even so supprised from the photos of the boxed copys the damage is not worse on every single copy .

One thing once they get to us they have VERY VERY GOOD homes .

Yes usually FAC steelbooks have been great and overall I believe Filmarena are doing a good job on quality control, but ofcourse they can always improve along with their associates. As those Dredd steelbooks in boxes show, that is one area where you could do some improvement.

If FA get there steelbooks like this so must zavi and a few other major retailers. If this is true, they must shrink wrap themselves in house. So the next time your steelbook arrives in a undamaged box with scratches and paint chips, you can bet you life that the retailer must of or ready been aware of this. I wonder how many times zavvi had shipments of damage steels, claimed back the damages but still tried to sell the steel at full price, knowing that a large % of us don't open them, a % of us won't moan even if there is minor damaged. Makes you wonder

Most of the retailers like Zavvi/Amazon/Hmv they get a steelbook already in the JCard and most times would come already shrink wrapped they would get some releases depending on the film studio distributor that might not be delivered shrink wrapped and then would use their own shrink wrapping

It's different for the likes of Film Arena as they put the steelbooks into exclusive full slips etc so they would get the steelbook just on its own delivered first
They then would shrink wrap the steelbook and the other items they got separately delivered from a different company

When I was in Retail most home media products arrived already shrink wrapped from the distributor

Yes Paul I think your right about the likes of Amazon and HMV, they more than likely to get them from the film disturbutor, but not zavvi wouldn't make sense to do this, due to all the shipping costs etc, most of the time there steelbooks are exclusive. So would be easy to wrap and pack on there side. I have seen photos like the ones above but on eBay with a seller selling the great gatsby and a few other titles with the same packaging as JD with no shrink wrapping and they have never been part of any collection, so I believe the film disturbutor or retailer sell us steelbooks knowing there is damage to them, surely this isn't right

Some releases of actual stock that appear early on ebay is often someone who works for the film distributor or retailer buyer who's been given a free copy and in some cases it's stolen stock from the distributor warehouse
I used to be a manager of a Video/Music Shop and have caught persons getting stock stolen from the film distributor warehouse

I also used to get from the film studios often free stock before it was released to the retailer and that would not be shrink wrapped or include a jcard it would be considered promotion stock

The Film Studio Distributor would sample check stock at the warehouse before they shrink wrap them so it can happen that some get missed that have damaged as they would not check every copy unless they got a lot of the sample ones checked showing damage

A retailer would also do some sample checks on the stock when they get delivery but unless they see lot damaged they would not know especially if it's minor damage not obvious that cant be seen

Most bad damage that happens is often during transport to the retailer and usually is very easy to notice and most times the retailer spots the damage

No I have to disagree, they are shipped from the manufacturer in the packaging like the photos above. The ones I saw on eBay was not one ofs at all, the seller had hundreds with photos just like the ones above in the manufacture boxes way after the release selling for just over £6 each. Stolen or not, that's not the piont, the piont is in which the way they were shipped to the film disturbutor or retailer. Maybe are good steelbooks friends at zavi can back this up with some photos of there delivered stock, prove me wrong. What harm would it do?

I worked in Video/Music Retail for 12 years as a buyer and majority of the time DVD/blu-ray come sealed from the distributor except a few releases from time to time
Some releases would be unsealed like box sets and we would have to use our own shrink wrap machine

It's different for Film Arena because they need the steelbook not shrink wrapped as they need to put items such as artcards etc inside the steelbook and after that they shrink wrap them
The Artcards and Full Slip and Lenti are not from the film Studio distributor they are from a different company and film arena get items delivered at different times

Zavvi get delivery from the distributor same as Amazon/HMV and all other retailers
Some they would need to shrink wrap but most arrive shrink wrapped
Zavvi don't have exclusives like Film Arena/Nova/Kimchi/Manta/Plain Archive where they require to put exclusive items not from the film distributor inside the steelbook

But Film Arena would require to remove the shrink wrapping of every steelbook so they could put the items they provide inside and it would be more suitable for them they don't arrive shrink wrapped and is why they arrive that way

As I put any other retailer would be under magor fire from membes here seeing that . You know I am right .

Now in no way am I knocking the amazing sets they put together .

A main component of that set is the steel . Meny people leave thire copys sealed so any damage to the steelbook itself may never come to light .

Better damage prevention in the first place in my book .

I agree with you but that is what happens when you have an exclusive where you have to put items inside the steelbook not provided by the film distributor themselves

It would be better if sent in a box better protected but that's between the Film Arena and the Distributor

To me it is us the collector's hobbists who then have to deal with any inperfections and damage that could have been provented in the first place.

The people world wide who want Mint to mean MINT and Perfect as possible to be just that.

I'm lucky I am always happy to get a copy and firgiving of damage . However I understand and feel the stress of OCD members.

Now back on topic I hope that some not used before artwork shows up on the FA Steels and box somewhere .

Totally agree.
Some members treat Filmarena like some sacred cow beyond reproach.

While they produce amazing products they are not beyond criticism.

No retailer should be beyond criticism. Collectors should speak out and not worry about being told off by the fans. That's the only way things can change for the better.

While retailers do check the forums for feedback, it would also be a good idea to contact the said retailer(s) directly via the contact form(s) through their own website(s) and convey that feedback.

Constructive criticism is the way to go folks.
