i wonder what ppl would say if zavvi released exactly the same steelbook in the uk..

poor quality matte
generic amaray artwork
no embossing/debossing
credits on the front :hilarious:

ppl are being highly inconsistent on what they like or not

Oh give it a rest man. People are allowed to have a moan about things they pay good money for. You don't seem to understand that, to be honest your blind loyalty to Zavvi is starting to get boring. Also, what exactly does your post have to do with this steelbook...erm...nothing.

1. This is not a poor quality matte finish, it's a zero finish (in between matte and gloss), which happens to look very nice in the flesh.

2. In this case...that's not so bad because the artwork used looks fantastic, front & back. There's also some unique artwork on the inside too.

3. THANK GOD!! There's far too much embossing/borders on steelbooks these days IMO. Embossing/debossing does not automatically make a steelbook better.

4. Yes I agree. Bizzare & slightly annoying BUT in the native language & being quite small in size make this slightly less of an eyesore. I have it displayed with the slip anyway so it still looks sexy.

ok, what about its extreme price (~28GBP for a single disc) + 2D only ? i guess thats another great feature of this steelbook :hilarious:

im not blindly loyal to zavvi, im just *bored* of this unfair bias and blind hate towards them, while ANYTHING with japanese writings instantly justifies a ripoff price + average at best steelbook design

The price is very high, I agree. But that's down to economic climate...Japan is in a better position than a lot of other countries at the moment...more disposable income = higher prices. That's the price you pay for importing goods from Asia.

As for disc content...that also sucks because I think this movie looked awesome in its native 3D. That being said....every Zavvi steelbook release this far has been bare bones 1 disc fodder with absolutely nothing extra included for the price...yet again you seem unwilling to acknowledge that.

There is no blind hate or bias from me...I'm just stating the facts. Why is so hard for you to accept other people's opinions? I have been full of praise for many Zavvi exclusives and I've also berated them for their failures on others. Does that make me a hater or a troll? No....that's just being human. You do not have the right to jump down the throat or belittle anybody who has paid money for a product and not been completely satisfied. That is their right as a consumer!!

Also, don't come into a thread and bash a steelbook/mock the people who buy it and not expect to be called out for it.

cc when you say its a zero finish (in between matte and gloss ) is theree any other steels with the same finish so i can compare it to us i have never heard of a zero finish before.

Received mine along with lockout and I love it.

Amazon.jp still has them in stock, probably $50-$60 shipped

Like Captain Coffee said, custom charges and having the time to get it too.

I'm happy with £50.

Any youtube reviews yet? I did do a search but came up with nada :(

Torn whether or not I want this :/

I'm with hatredhorror here. I bought it, I admit. But if Zavvi were selling this for £15 a number of people would be complaining, for all the reasons he stated. As I said before, slap some Japanese writing on it and people will pay silly prices for it.

Is there really any difference between the finish on Dredd and - for example - the old play.com Con Air, or are people fooling themselves? I do agree with Captain Coffee on embossing/debossing though, I'm starting to appreciate a 'plain' flat steelbook more these days.

This is the only Dredd steelbook around. It's overpriced. The steelbook is expensive. The shipping is expensive, and for those in the UK (presumably throughout Europe) import fees are expensive. There's plenty of stock, unlike the Zavvi steelbooks that are often sold out before release. So people are going to find ways to justify buying, or not buying it. I don't have many Japanese steelbooks but this is the least impresive of them.

If you like a zero finish Sephora offer a 'Zero Oil™ Instant Matte Finish' here...

Woo Hoo! Mine is currently in Chicago in the custody of Customs right now. Don't believe I have any customs fees to worry about, so that's good. Hopefully I'll have it sometime early this week! Looking forward to it! :scat:

Asian steels will always be more sought after and rare, all the zavvi releases are so generic and EVERYONE can get them. Personally I'd rather have the more rare version of a title than a generic one ANYONE can obtain. That's why WE COLLECT. Take Thor JP, same artwork as the world, but if you're a collector you want to have the JP version.

Not all collectors are giddy for stupid stickers and pieces of cardboard. You want Thor JP if you're insane for Thor or you have $900 to spend...on a blu-ray. Everyone can get Zavvi releases, just like everyone can get Amazon & HMV JP releases. It's not like people who buy Asian steels are in a special club, unless that club is the I have lots of money to spend on blu-ray club.

I know anybody can get Asian steels, but they are more limited most if time, zavvi's lowest run is 4000, where as some Asian steels are 100.

Amazon.jp are sending me a replacement for my dented one, but have said as its a single item it will be packaged in the same way as the first. Fingers crossed it makes it in one piece this time.
