No bulk buying in my local, and they have placed them all behind the counter. I put in 2 official complaints!

1, It took me 3 steels to get one not damaged this afternoon. They were badly damaged on the back and scratched on the front and I "think" HMV knows they have a batch with many duds in it. They all look like they were re shrinked with no security tags.

2, Steelbook collectors like to be able to inspect more than one and chose the one they will take home! If I want blind buys I will buy online. It is 100% totally unacceptable to be "handed" my copy by some idiot behind the till that slams it around like a pack of smokes!

Thank you fellow ninjas for helping us..most especially to GB hosts G & David for the efforts to source this for us. Much appreciated!

UK - Ender's Game HMV Exclusive

Super High Gloss finish with debossed title and embossed rear. The circle on the rear is a debossed frame and the dragon is then embossed.

The Debossed title on the front is large and looks insane. The dragon on the rear is a very very nice touch.

STEELBOOK OF 2014 SO FAR

All images can be clicked on for a closer view. They are all high res and can be viewed at full scale.

I failed to get one in my local branch, Stevenage, some kind soul went in and purchased all of them.

I went in lunch time so am well gutted.

I guess I will have to preorder next time:angry:

The HMV on Oxford Street was sold out by midday. Maybe the same kind soul bought the last 30 they had in store. The assistant told me the person just had literally walked out with the last 30 copies they had.

Ricster, this is definitely a contender for SBOTY 2014.
Zavvi, you should hold your head in shame for the quality of your Black Steelbooks when compared to this.
Entertainment Store you should also be ashamed, when you consider just how much you are charging for your Steelbooks in comparison to HMV's price of £15-16 for new releases.
I for one hope that the studios will drop Zavvi & ES and go with HMV.
Maybe HMV can open up an ebay store so that international buyers can purchase these quality Steelbooks.
Zavvi & ES kneel before the new King and bow your head.

That's great if you actually have access to an HMV store. For everyone else it's a pain in the arse to actually get a copy now that they've basically stuck two fingers up at collectors and people trying to arrange group buys. I hope they never do an exclusive steel ever again. But like you say, if they did an eBay outlet then that would make up for it (but I very much doubt they even care about this predicament).

Also, isn't it down to the studios to decide the artwork rather than HMV?!

Please contact Naughtius Maximus, one of the Group Buy hosts you can see in the OP. He will know what to do. Thank you so much!

HMV Gateshead Metro Centre had loads last night.. I must of counted 50? .. I will grab as many as possible .. no idea how to pass them on to other members (newbie ish) but I'm sure someone can help me

hmv- quality over quantity

It is eONE and not HMV alone. Also let's not forget that the movies released in Steelbook format exclusive to HMV are mostly below average or poor quality:

1. Red 2
2. Riddick
3. Ender's Game

Let's remember that Zavvi have released 50x more Steels than HMV and you can expect some cock ups here and there. Zavvi have given us some wonderful Steels with cheap overseas delivery (mentioned a few below):

1. Roger Rabbit
2. Goonies
3. Aladdin
4. 101 Dalmatians
5. The Prestige
6. Toy Story
7. Mary Poppins
8. Filth

and let's not forget the next set of Disney Steels will be gloss and has the potential to look great.

Managed to secure 17 copies for the group buy, with a possible 10 more, manager said he'd ring round the local stores to try & get them for me.

Massive thanks to the manager Al, from my local store in Kings Lynn.

Should also mention they have 5 copies left, as they wanted to keep some back to display on the shelves.

2014 is a really magnificient year for steelbooks so far.

Did anyone in Ireland manage to get one of these? I sent an email asking why the Belfast store didn't get this and have been informed that we're no longer part of hmv and are owned by Xtra-Vision, same as the southern stores. Looks like there'll be no instore pick-ups from Belfast anymore!
