same here. but i got this reply today:

At the moment I am unable to send you out replacement steel books as they are out of stock.

In regards to this as we are due to get some more back in stock, if you are happy to wait for these to come back in, in the upcoming weeks if you are not happy to wait, I will happily process a return on these items for you.

Badly damaged ? You asked for replacement ?

both copies covered with fine scratches both on front and back. no dings or dents though. and yes i asked kindly for a replacement and this is what they offered me. of course i went with the "happy to wait" option. ;) let's see if they will let me know, or just forget about my enquiry and sell them all on their site.

Why don't you contact Eureka directly for a replacement?

Sounds like a restock to me, so anyone buying this off eBay at the moment may be in for a nasty surprise.

If so, I genuinely hope someone takes Zavvi on for misleading buyers by stating it was limited to only 2,000.

2000 is not exactly a small print run for this kind of movie

What they actually stated:

Which has always seemed implausibly low for the total print run.

It was 2000
Lot of the stock sold when it went live by error early it was live for over 2 hours
1000 was when it went live officially
Zavvi can take time to put back available cancellation stock sometimes but it is unusual that it has not happened by now
Another possible reason is Eureka have not supplied all the stock yet or it is simply sold out and cancellation amount was small

So where has the extra 1000 gone

i guess there are more than 1000 in circulation already, given the high amount of copies on ebay etc.

regarding cancellations, as far as i know they made the cancellations from the "mistake" first live time (with the higher price therefore lots of people cancelled) available right after it sold out so shortly after the official pre-order time. it was OOS for an hour or so, but zavvi put up the cancellations they received immediately. guess there weren't that many cancellations afterwards...
only thing that confuses me, is that eureka has stock to replace the scratched copies.
it's a thrilling steelbook release story, something that keeps the collecting hobby alive and exciting imho.

Zavvi have also given the lower price to those that did not cancel at higher price without customers customers contacting zavvi and requesting pre order price promise which was a surprise as most times you have to contact them to get it
Lot might not have cancelled as expected and kept their orders

Most of the stock ordered I expect was when went live early by error
Over 2 hours is lot of time to get a order in for this release with the demand it has so I estimate most of the orders was then

Yes, quite agree, and I'm guessing the story ain't finished until the fat lady sings (i.e. until Zavvi puts out the remaining stock they are sitting on and not until those final copies are sold).

Anyway, regarding the multiple condition issues affecting the backs of this steelbook witnessed across the forums, I've fired off a message to Scanavo requesting information on how this unfortunate situation was allowed to happen, at which stage of the manufacturing/packing process this could have happened and why quality control was not more hands on to stop the affected copies slipping through the net.
If a reply is forthcoming I'll post it here as usual.

A final brief unboxing, without the sometimes annoying chatter, showing off the cool elegance of this steelbook:-

This is one steelbook that had terrible quality control. Good for virkia for asking scanavo why!

Nice booklet though.
