As with every steelbook release I hope and trust that there's a certain percentage printed over and above what is sold to the customer specifically kept back to be used as replacements (for copies damaged in transit) . . . an amount not put on sale at the time of release . . . but once replacements have been sorted I'd expect the remainder of the replacement stock to be offered for sale to everyone even if it's a month or three later.
For a 2,000 print run for example I wouldn't be surprised if an extra 150 or thereabouts are printed for just such an eventuality and that could be the reason why steelbooks previously showing "Sold out" for months before and around release date - such as THE LOSERS, DON'T LOOK NOW, THE IMITATION GAME come back on sale (and, no, I don't think it likely that new stock has been printed in 99% of cases).

. . . or, to clarify, if I'd paid 50 quid no way would I open it . . . would wait for cancellations to pick up a second watchable copy for the "right price".
If no cancellations appear I'd keep the 50 quid steelbook sealed and would buy the Amaray to watch (same discs/same content).

Well, the price i paid for it doesn't make it more special ;-) i see no reason to treat it different than if i had paid 19 for it. ;)
I keep some editions sealed, and i open some others...
But the choice is never driven by the price i paid for. If i am 100% sure i will not put it for sale one day or another, i would rather open it instead of keeping it sealed till i die, cause my wife, not knowing the value of any of the dvd's i own would probably resell it for 5

Exactly bud... do whatever you please with it, as it is yours after all. As long as you're happy with your decision, then that's all that matters. ;)

I've lost what little interest and curiousity i had in this now, have lost complete interest in it. I might pick up the amaray cheap at some point, but not sure about that. Haha, another one in the pot though, for those still gagging for it, if it does come back.

I wonder what happened to the cancellations, doesn't look good, no updates from Zavvi on it, typical. I can see a lot of them are being sold on ebay for over double now, I'll trade later or just leave it.

Yeah, i saw a few on Ebay selling just the steelbook with the booklet - both of which had minor damage. I think one of the auctions is still on there. It is an option for those that missed out and if they don't mind imperfections, and then just pick up the amaray cheap, at some point, and slip the discs into the steelbook ( i feel sure the discs in the amaray wil be identical to the steelie?) - is an option, if you can pick up just the steel and booklet at a good price on Ebay. But for me, i'm done with this one.

^ I don't think we can assume that and I'd expect this to come back just like THE BURNING came back but I don't expect copies to hang around for as long as that one did when it came back . . all depending of course on how many replacements were needed to cover damaged returns and how many customers kept their scuffed/chipped/scratched copies and accepted partial refunds.
