What types of variant versions of a figure do you guys buy or pass on? I don't mean different numbered versions of the same character (ex. Daenerys Targaryen #3,#25,#26), I mean different variants of the same numbered figure (ex. Deadpool #20 has 9 variants).
Myself, I do not buy glow in the dark or flocked versions. I do buy metallic, black & white/greyscale, blood splattered, unmasked, colour/outfit change, sculpt variation, etc
There aren't really many variants that I don't buy. Not to say I buy all variants, but there aren't any that I would shy away from simply because they are of a certain category of variant. If I had to choose a favorite category, it would probably be metallic or unmasked. For the most part, the metallics tend to be a bit "sharper" (for lack of a better term) than their normal counterparts. Unmasked POP!s are nice, because it gives you not only a cool variant, but also a different sculpt which is far too few and far between these days (e.g. Batman). However, when completing a series, I like to have all the regular versions and then take my pick at the variants.
To be honest though, often times I prefer the "plain Jane" regular version to any of its variants, even if the variant looks better to me (e.g. Aquaman). Not sure why, but I do. I'll use steelbooks as an example, and to be more specific, Korean steelbooks (my absolute faves!). I'll take the regular Korean version over Kimchi's lenti/quarter/full slip. It's weird, I know, and I can't tell you why, but that's me.
2 POP!s off the top of my head that I absolutely prefer in variant are Batman & Superman. The metallic Chase variants can NOT be beat. In ANY way, shape or form. Which is funny because I own neither of them in their Chase variants. Oh, another is metallic Magneto. He should've NEVER been made without metallic paint.
