Seen the first 5 episodes now and must admit it is growing on me. The characters and character development is really great. Not that much action so far but I have a feeling that will change.

Anyone have some views on this series? :scat:

Awhile back we canceled our premium channels. During HBO's free teaser weekend my DVR recorded the first episode of S3. Do I even torture myself and watch this episode knowing I won't be able to finish until the BDs are released?:ohno: Such a dilemma.

Edited due to my ramblings being potentially spoilerific!

I was so disappointed at first when I realised Vargo Hoat had been replaced with this Bolton 'hunter'. I'm still devastated that we won't be getting any "Kingthlayer!" or "Thapphireth!?" but in terms of the show, it makes a lot of sense to start crafting a real identity and presence for house Bolton.

Still, Hoat was a legend. :(

Don't forget to use spoilers when talking about the book. MAJOR
I'm guessing there is a slim chance he is a character. I assume Bolton has to leave for the red wedding because how could Bolton be responsible and align with Tywinn knowing Jamie would tell his father his house is responsible. Maybe Hoat will be waiting to ambush Jamie's escort on the way back to King's Landing. Only time will tell.

Sorry Che, I've edited tags into the post. I don't think I was specifically spoiling anything, but you're absolutely right and I'll err on the side of caution in this thread.

Episode 3.03 and BOOK SPOILERS:

Seeing the new episode, I think that's the nail in the coffin for Hoat's chance to appear, and I think these hunters have replaced the Brave Companions/Bloody Mummers. As you mentioned, there is now the serious question of how Roose is going to make a deal with Tywin when his own bannerman has lopped off Jaime's hand. Not sure how that's going to be resolved. I noticed as well that Melisandre is off on a trip to get king's blood...will Gendry be replacing Edric Storm?

Episode 3.03 spoilers only:

I wasn't in love with this episode as much as the first two. The biggest problem was the need to visit almost every main character, even if it was for a single, very short, scene. The result is an episode that felt like it had made very little progress.

Then there are the ridiculous, unnecessary scenes with Pod losing his virginity only to be proven the most virile man in all of Westeros. The whores wouldn't even take payment? ugh. cheesy dialogue peppered here and there didn't help either. "All men must die. But we are not men." Seriously, Dany?

But there were great moments in the episode, too. Riverrun was beautiful, and both Edmure and the Blackfish were perfect. Ser Barristan, well I could just watch Barristan read aloud the telephone book for an hour and be satisfied! :hilarious: Special mention also to the end credits... A bear there was! A bear!! A BEAR!!! That was a treat.

I actually thought this was a very good episode.

The scene with Pod is just like him in the book, always surprising Tyrion which is why Tyrion loves him so much so I had no problems with that. Also GoT had to make it's nudity quota somehow. :hilarious: And Tyrin's scene in the counsellor meeting was great. Though I do forget the whole implications with the chair arangements in the book. Was it to prove whether he was a lannister or not, can someone remind me.

Edmure and Blackfish were great. And if you were an HBO Rome fan you would have noticed that Edmure played Brutus in that show.

Any scene with Dany is great, and I really liked that scene. I just wish she had handed over the dragon this episode since thats my favorite part of the book and I cannot wait for next week.

Jamie's hand getting cut off by a Bolton will be problematic, but we'll see how it plays out. Also I am curious when the guy who saved Theon reveals himself to be Roose, who I beleive he is. Especially when he shot the guy in the head with the arrow and he was like you ba**ard. I laughed becuase of the double entendre (cause he is in fact a ba**ard)

I have to go back to listen to the Bear song as I do remember that being in the books but didn't notice it in the credits

Ah yes, the nudity quota. :hilarious: It's not so much the characterization of Pod that irked me here, it's the fact that the scene was played for laughs in such a silly way. Would prostitutes really forgo willing payment? Perhaps more pertinently, would Littlefinger's prostitues?

I agree with you about the council scene, it was very enjoyable. RE: the moving chairs, I don't think it's that big a deal in the book. Tyrion is one of the first there and promptly takes Pycelle's seat, but he doesn't move after that.

I did recognize Tobias Menzies.:D Just need James Purefoy to pop up now and we'll have a Rome reunion! :oohyeah:

Dany's arc next week should indeed be excellent. Really, i didn't have any problems with the scene other than that line of dialogue, which instantly brought up an "I am no man" Eowyn image, something which feels inappropriate for this universe. I admit this one's a niggle!

If Theon's rescuer reveals himself to be Roose, I'll eat my hat!:p I do know whot you mean however, and again, agree.

The Bear and the Maiden Fair popped up twice. Once when the Bolton men were transporting a captive Jaime and Brienne, and then in the credits as a rock version. It was pretty funny hearing it blare out! :hilarious:

I love what they are doing with misdirection. Even book readers are guessing. I think that was Ramsay Snow. Will he be a friend to Theon? I wonder if that's why he saved him. Maybe in the show Roose will be the monster. I'm thinking that's how the Arya lie might work in the show. I have no complaints other than the Jamie bit. I don't know how that is going to work now.

oops I said Roose above, I did mean his son Ramsay as I did say his ba**ard son
