Seen the first 5 episodes now and must admit it is growing on me. The characters and character development is really great. Not that much action so far but I have a feeling that will change.

Anyone have some views on this series? :scat:

Episode Spoilers with Book Crossover Spoilers!

Ye've been Warned, ARG (the pirates are taking over today)

A pretty good episode. It was great to see the buildup to the weddings

THough a few points:
I do not recall Thoros ever meeting Melissendre and her taking Gendry or talking to Arya at all. Melissendre actually made it seem like Thoros is more powerful than her becuase eh can resurect the dead, which apparently she can't. BUt he is not as religious as her so is Rholler having a laugh.

I know Joffrey has a sadistic side but I don't recall Baelish sending him a girl to kill because she spied on him over Sansa. I do remember Tyrion sending him girls that he hurts, but not Peter

It was nice to see Jon Snows relationship growing.

Also interesting to see Jamie beginning to reconcile how hard life will be without his hand just to do mundane things

The scene between Tywinn and the QoT was great, I am convinced they gave her more air time just for that sharp wit. Her scenes are just priceless.

I like the lead up to all the weddings, next week has to be Tyrion, then the red, and then Joffrey... Game of Thrones...more like Game of Altars

Things I did not like: NO DANY or DRAGONS  oh and when was the last time we saw a Direwolf, shame HBO for going light on the effects when the house sigils are important to the characters!

YARR!

Episode and book spoilers!

The Melisandre-goes-to-the-Riverlands plot is to make up for the fact that we haven't been to Storm's End in the show, and that there is no Edric Storm to supply kingsblood. Gendry is going to replace him. From here on out I presume it will go like the book, with Davos convincing Stannis to spare him. I suspect Selyse's pickled babies will then replace the three leeches spell.

I think Thoros said it best in the ep regarding power... That it is R'hllor who does the magic, through his priests. There has also been no indication in the book that Mel has such an ability. To be honest, I'm not all that convinced she's even very good at reading the flames.

You're right that Littlefinger never sent Joff a ***** to kill. I do think this was the logical end point for Ros' double agent arc though, and it's completely in character for Joffrey. The show does need to cut out a few characters, it's starting to struggle in juggling them all and we still have more new faces to come (even in the next few episodes!)

I agree with you about Jon. This is the first episode where I've really believed the relationship between him and Ygritte.

I don't think Tyrion's wedding is until episode 8, obviously Edmure's is episode 9. I'm starting to think Joff's won't be until next year actually. If you think about the split,
Seriously, BOOK SPOILERS!
Season 3 is the fall of house Stark, season 4 the fall of House Lannister

No Dany is always a shame, but they're really getting through her Storm of Swords story lightning fast! They're definitely going to be into her Dance with Dragons chapters by the end of season 4. Anyway, from the preview it looks like lots of Dany next week, and based on the episode titles (Second Sons, Mysha), she's going to be heavily featured in 8 and 10 too. So there should be plenty to look forward to!

I completely agree about the direwolves. Has Grey Wind even appeared this season? And where exactly is Ghost now? It's disappointing, but I guess it all comes down to budget, and the showrunners have to make choices. I'm sure it's the same reason why we didn't get the battle at the Fist. Hopefully, if the viewership ratings keep rising as they have been this season, HBO might throw some more money at the show for season 4. Battle for the Wall needs money thrown at it HBO. You listening!?

Just don't even read this you've been warned

Truth be told I did forget abour Edric Strorm, however gendry is supposed to be part of the brothers without banners and how would he rejoin them now. Also I assumed Gendry would come into play later in the books, maybe by them doing this GRRM let slip that he isn't really important as he is a special consultant on the show.

I know R'hollor chooses who he wants, but it is interesting then that technically Thoros is following the starkish side though R'hollor is from Valyria, thus i ship stark/targaryen again :hilarious:

Again I agree Joffrey doing that was in character, I just didn't remember Peter doing that, which apparently did not happen.

Like I sadi before I really think they need to do Joffrey's wedding this season otherwise people will be really put off. Also there will still be a lot to do even if they do the wedding.

They are doing Dany's story fast otherwise they would have to invest in the cgi for the dragons to show them more. Rush through the sacking of astaphor, maybe throw in an explosion or two but limited dragon sightings.

They did show ghot once at the begginig of the season I think otherwise nope and no have not seen Robb's direwolf, just rickon and bran's and not even Nymeria.

HBO did it with Rome, it gets too big so they cut in other parts, but the dragons only get bigger and more important. What are they going to do then. I agree when they do show them they are spot on, but they severly limit them.

Also any thoughts on Queen of Thorns and Tywinn

REPLY
I think Mel going in the riverlands serves multiple purposes. Instead of Arya meeting the dwarf witch(who foreshadows the RW and Baelon dying), she meets Mel who says "we will meet again". ADWD
A trick to the viewer for later on when she is at the wall and tells Jon that a grey girl on a dying horse is coming to castle black and that its Arya. My only dwarf witch ?, is the reference of a maid with purple serpents in her hair killing a savage giant in a castle made of snow. Is this a Sansa reference or a trick by GRMM??
Also, keep in mind. Davos saves Eddrick Storm and if I remember correctly he is also with the Brotherhood w/o Banners. I bet Davos saves his life. I don't know who metioned this but Mel is going to use the pickled babies as a curse on the 3 kings. I think every red priest has different powers. Benero controls the winds with his. The Queen of Thorns was given a larger role I bet because of how she's going to "END" the season. As far as Baelish/Varys, I like the dynamic much more on the show because it lets the viewer know they are the 2 biggest players in King's Landing. Poor Ros. *In Sansa Voice* "MONSTER"

This was a very odd episode to me, so I will cut to the chase, 50% I loved, 50% I will never forget....

Some book stuff in here, so watch out

So we have Bran still heading to the north, and still no direwolves sighting, not much happened there other than some backstory from Osha

We have Arya running away and getting caught by the hound leading up to the season finale

Robb and his wife, who admits to a bun in the oven, which I think was alluded to but never confirmed.

Jamie again continuing on his path of becoming a likeable fellow. Can someone remind me when he begins training.

Dany and THE DRAGONS, finally. That was a short scene but great. You can really see them getting bigger and now people have to take notice of her. She's got a 12,000 person army and some very onery dragons and you know how dragons feel about their gold... :naughty:

Not to mention you can almost see the slaver visualizing the three dragons ripping him to shreds in a fight for a scrumptous morsel. Them tearing apart the meat was almost better than the sacking at astaphor.

And the part I will never forget (which makes me feel very weak) Theon. He gets a ride and then... EEK!

In the book they allude but it can go either way but the way that scene was filmed, I will not be forgetting it for weeks. I may lose sleep... :ohno:

You've been modified!

Just don't gang up with Che in the book thread and assault me with your divine authority, k? :p

I'll agree with you, in that I was 50/50 on this one. It's really just a few things brining it down.

Booky things be lurking within. Roar.

No Direwolves again. I get that they "wander" but it really sticks out, especially in Bran's camping party scenes.

Robb and his wife is weird, because it's a different character than in the books. Jeyne Westerling is his bride there and her mother says that she had been slipping her birth control mixtures so that she couldn't breed, although I think the Blackfish later does claim that she is pregnant. The fact that Talisa in the show is pregnant is yelling "DOOM" to me. I think she's for the chop at Edmure's wedding. That, or she's Twyin's agent.

Jaime's really becoming one of the best characters on the show. He's had some great episodes this season, the last one no exception. There were some continuity issues with Brienne's wounds in the bear pit scene, which is a step below the show's usual high standards. But it was overall great. Locke is a great antagonist too, he basically is Vargo without the lisp. My regrets that Vargo was cut are now certainly gone. I have a feeling that Locke will reappear in Brienne's arc from Feast for Crows, replacing Shagwell the fool perhaps.

Jaime starts training almost immediately after he gets back to King's Landing, as it's not that long before he leaves again to beseige Riverrun. Unfortunately we won't get to see him spar with Ilyn Payne in the show, as the actor has pulled out due to terminal cancer of the pancreas. :( I'm not sure who could replace him as Jaime's tutor. Meryn Trant? I never got the impression that Trant was anything but useless though.

The dragons were awesome, and it's great to see Rheagal and Viserion get some screentime as well as their brother. I've been blown away by the dragons every time they've been onscreen, both in design terms and the quality of the animation. And I still want one.

Still have a feeling that Yunkai is replacing Meereen. In the book, Yunkai does capitulate to Dany's demands; they free their slaves and get left alone in return. In the show, it's building into a definite conflict.

'Boy'. *sigh*

Ramsey is my single biggest disappointment of this season, hands down. The showrunners really get Theon right, so it's really a shame that they just don't nail Ramsey. They've played up the sadist and lunatic aspects of his character to the detriment of everything else. He's a psychopathic control freak with rage issues and no empathy, and I just don't get that feeling from the jokey/giggly torturer on the show. He would also never, and I mean never, have female accomplices. If you're a woman in or around the dreadfort, you live in fear every day wondering when the bastard will **** and/or flay you. As to the castration, I just thought it was better implicit.

Thanks for the congrats.

pretty much on show spoilers so your OK to read non book readers
Yup the direwolves missing is just screaming at me at this point

Who knows what will hapen at Edmure's wedding. I think she may be safe since the boooks have possible alllusion to Jeyne being pregnant, but we shall see.

Jamie is grat though for me it is Dany. I was hoping Jamie was going to shove him in the bear pit. But I'm sure there will be some retribution.

Oh and I forgot to discuss Joffrey/Tywin scene. He looks like he wants to smack his grandson upside his head. Sad to hear about the actor maybe cause he had a minor role they could replace him.

Yes the dragons are spot on, we'll see where that story arc goes

As to your fears about me and Che teaming up on you. I'm afraid it will be you and him teaming up on me if anything. We are discussing if Theon was or was not cut and there are discussions about that on other forums with points in both directions. Never have I ever discussed another mans penis as much before :hilarious:

Book stuff:
And I agree with you abour Roose. On top of the fact that they haven't even technically revealed he is roose's bastard. Doesn't he keep a pack of dogs with him named after women that the dogs hunted and *****

Awww guys, who wants to be my tag team partner?

book spoiler

I'm looking for the paragraph and there is so much to skim through it's hard. I might have to reread all the Theons. I swear there is 1 line confirming it. Very sneaky too, like even before he was cut. Or the wedding night scene with Jane. BTW, it's Ramsay Snow.

yes you are right ramsay but he is legitimized

I'm going to take this to the chat thread, let this one breath a little after all the book spoils. :oohyeah:

Where to begin, where to begin

No Robb, No John Snow, no Bran (No Direwolves) and No Theon. :ohno: Thanks for that thoughI dunno if I could have handled that, maybe he is done for the season which would be fine with me.

But then it looked like Melissandre was about to do the same thing, seriously who is writing these parts of the show, guarantee it was the same writer sheesh.

We have lots :naughty: and I mean lots  od Dany. I swear I would go to war for her  but no dragons. Cool to see Daario even if he isn't physically as described in the books. You can see why she would fall for him. Gains a lover and another 2000 army

Leaving a large part of the episode for the Wedding. I was disappointed to see Sansa so sympathetic to Tyrion to the point of her lowering herself to let him cloak her. He is likeable in the books but I think it has to do with him being more likeable in the show. Like in the books you sympathize with him but others are harsher to him. Though if she hadn't would it have made it more impressive his respectfulness of her when he dd not bed her at the end of the night, or do you think it didn't matter.

Queen of Thorns is always great to see, but most credit really does need to go to margery. Cersi threatens her and she doesn't even bat an eyelash, that shows much more cunning than your average person. She really seems to know how to play the game of thrones

but if you've read the books I think its kind of obvious, even if she has a lesser role

I don't think it mattered. Love how much of the book they used. "Wooden cock" line to Joff was classic. QoT is hysterical. Tyrion is the man. THE Leaches!!!!! HAHA!!! So much about to happen. Don't forget Arya. Sam the Slayer!!!

OK.................BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO COLD HANDS??? C'MON!!!

I'll keep this one TV spoilers only

Very strong episode for week 8, up there with 4 and 5 for me this year. I love the fact that, excepting a scene each for Arya and Sam, the episode focussed on just three plotlines. It reminded me of Season 1, and the focus it had which has been lost a bit since. Looks like episode 9 will be similarly structured, which is great in my book.

Seems I was wrong about the stillborns replacing the leeches. I'm quite glad actually, it would have been more disgusting even than what we ended up getting! EEK!

I think Sansa's respect towards Tyrion is due in part to Tyrion being much nicer/nobler on the show. If she was as horrible to him as she is in the books, she'd lose pretty much all viewer sympathy.

Patience, Che, Coldhands is coming. Big flock of ravens on a weirwood? Definitely a sign. :)
