From IMDB
The Los Angeles Times talked to Dan Aykroyd about Ghostbusters 3 that is in development at Columbia Pictures. Here are several excerpts:

Aykroyd said Sigourney Weaver is on board now, as are the original squad of ectoplasmic specialists -- Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson.

"We could be in production by winter."

Aykroyd said he wishes Ivan Reitman would return to direct the third film in the series but that he's "too busy as a mega-producer" to take it on; his second choice is Ramis, who, of course, co-wrote the first two "Ghostbusters" films with Aykroyd and has numerous directing credits, most notably "Groundhog Day" and "Analyze This."

The details of story are still in play, but Aykroyd said he's hoping for a five-member "new generation" team with several female members. "I'd like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let's revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let's pass it on to a new generation."

...some goo and ecto !

So is this a sequel or not? Everyone (including the director) says that it's not, but that whole "30 years ago..." lead-in to that trailer makes it seem like it takes place within the same universe as the original. Hmm...

To me, that makes all the difference in the world. Totally ignoring the first two films angers me; respecting them and continuing on their legacy within the same universe with new characters... I'd be okay with that.

do not know, BUT most of the original cast is in (if IMdB is to believed) so I quess it's kind of semi-same-universe-sequel.:rofl:

Meh.

Wasn't giving this film much of a chance anyway TBH. (Nothing against the cast bar MM but why why why remake it) naughty of me I know but I get protective of things like this.

Doesn't look as bad as I expected, but it's still not looking great and is as unnecessary as a "reboot" can get IMO. The only thing I really liked about the trailer was Kate McKinnon... she'll no doubt steal the entire movie!

Also love how many dislikes the trailer is getting compared to likes on the official Sony Pictures Youtube account... almost 20,000 more at the time of posting this. :ohno:

Hopefully! Has the Point Break remake already been in cinemas then? Last I heard anything about the film was when that awful trailer was released last year... literally haven't seen anyone talking about it since then.

I was very against this and I am still tiny bit annoyed it's ghostbusters when I love the originals so much but I will wait to see the film to make my decision. It looks not as terrible as I first thought in the trailer. There's a fine line with comedy and a piss take I'm not sure which this is yet :ohno:

It's nice to hear the music again and have the fire station and ecto1 but will have to see what happens

Hmmmmm I'm not sure.
If it's a reboot then they haven't got creative with it at all.
Looks like the same way they get together in the originals!
It's looks a little better than I expected but the whole ghost taking human identities kind of died in the trailer and went boring. Maybe it was how it was edited.

Slimer looked cool though (this looks so much like a sequel even with the terrible excuse behind it from the director)

I do really like Kirsten wiig though

yeah... I'm thinking about passing on this hot mess.I loved the GhostBusters music but the rest i can live without.

I love the look of the ghost with today's tech. They look awesome.

The cast it what really worries me.I still think it should have been two males and two females in order to catch both audiences and not alienate the old guard, but they went full Third wave feminist. And that's going to hurt them. Most men are going to avoid it just cause and women aren't going to rush out to see it like they think.
