Yes, but these days slipcovers play a large role in Steelbook collecting. Captain America TW is a grail that certain collectors are willing to put down a nice sum of money. Also, Gladiator TW has one of the nicest slips out there, next to Terminator Salvation TW, but to each his own (I guess).

Please correct me if I am wrong....the steelbook looks the same as other releases but it is the slipcover that makes the difference?

This would be correct. People are willing to pay absurd amounts of money for a piece of paper. Trying to find rarity in a place that it no longer exists if you ask me. Once steel's started getting re-printed the whole movement towards calling certain slipcover versions rare started up and then subsequently a belief in it too. Now people pay $300 for the same steel to get cool asian lettering somewhere on a piece of paper that wraps around it. To each his own I guess but you can probably guess what side of the fence I am on, lol.

I agree that people pay silly money for slips

Here is a simple example

Snow White & The Huntsmen Collector's Box with Steelbook - 20 GBP (this is a big and beautiful set that weighs about 1 Kg but just look at the price it sold for). It cost me 8.5 GBP to send it by Recorded Delivery to UK address.

Snow White & The Huntsmen Korea Steelbook - 65 GBP

I dont know about that. If it was just about asian lettering and slipcover then there are alot of steels being overlooked for example underworld awakening japan has one of the best looking full slips that ive seen complementing a steelbook but you can still get it fairly cheap. There are plenty of steelbooks that look tremendously better than Gladiator taiwan but the overhyping and scarceness of it lets it prevail as a grail. One thing is for certain steelbook collecting is a very enigmatic hobby. Understanding steelbooks rarity is like a box of chocolates you never know what you going to get.:hilarious:

Sorry i just watched forrest gump.:p

Yes, it's a beauty, but global release plus in-stock availability at amazon Japan are probably keeping it off the grail list for now. Maybe it will go up in value once it goes OOS?

Since gladiator was also a global release I would say its just the availability.

IMO this is probably the rarest 'slip cover' steelbook, rarer than T2 2.0. Love this slip, the design, the unique Asian lettering gives it that extra special feel to it. Awesome slip :)

This was my 1st Steelbook from TW. Now I only add TW flicks for which I love the film, not for any kind of rarity (doesn't phase me). Not really into slips either, but this one is :scat:
