The problem is that at the end of the day someone is being paid to design the cover (for good or bad) and the company concerned is not going to just turn round and take a design from someone who isn't being paid no mater how well intended. That sadly is the reality of these covers for any steelbook. Having said all that, I have to seriously wonder how the designs for the forthcoming The Day the Earth Stood Still and The Rocky Horror Show got past any quality control........... If even one is sold I'd be amazed

I don't expect them to take my designs and just use them. I'm just lending a critical eye and if the ones calling the shots find something they see and like they can try to push their design more in that direction....or they can just fire their clown and hire me. :hilarious:

That a very good point. Didnt realy take that into account. But I wouldnt care if they took the designs from this site and claimed it was their idea so as long as we get these awesome designs manufactured in metal. Its not like we hold any copyrights on the images used or designs made.

And that leads into the next problem. Companies are paranoid about copyright. So they won't use your idea simply because of the possibility of being sued at a later date. If it's a choice between using a "paid" designer and a poor cover and using a superior design from someone who is not their designer, the "paid" designer wins every time because the paid designer is under contract and there won't be any comeback. That is the reality of design. I know being a designer myself.
If you're not under contract to the company concerned you're a loose cannon.

At the end of the day the "paid clown" is going to get the companies attention by simple virtue he or she is being paid for whatever reason. They are not interested in you or me or you would have been hired.......

Definitely valid points where professional protocol for designing and the industry as a whole are concerned. Well, whether for this Steelbook or others, sometimes 'concepts', 'placements' and 'preferences' from the community have been considered and implemented. You never know. As a film I enjoyed very much, I am personally hoping that someone else releases a unique design that captures the vastness and scope of this film...

::Staff/Community Manager::

You can be sure the designer has been given a brief and has to follow a particular criteria specific to the marketing of the film in terms of images they are allowed to use, Fonts, specific aspects of the film etc. In other words their hands will be tied to a certain degree and you can bet your bottom dollar the designer has been told specific things they have to adhere to....
All things considered the designer usually has to play a game of meeting the client half way between what they want and what the client wants.
It's how the final product fits into the client's overall game of their product placement that matters most. Not what you are I think should be there.

Me too but having been in the same boat as some of those designers, it can be a bloody nightmare trying to get what you want past the client. You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. And usually very little thanks at the end of the day. You're going to upset someone no mater what you do.

Been there. Done that.

this was an intense film with many intense scenes to chose from. so far all the artwork and fan mock-ups are bland and boring. ;)

Having watched the film at least 3 times, it's s hard one to capture by single images alone.
No artwork is really going to do it justice. It's a pure visual experience that has to be seen to be believed.

I much prefer the current submitted one over Geek Tragedy's version. It has SB on the cover and is much more fitting with the whole 'silence' theme.
